Need insight-- thinking on transferring to u pitt for spring semester!

hey so i am currently at UNCW as a freshmen.. but i am very unhappy here. I want to transfer to U Pitt (main campus) more than anything. All I need to know is if i will get in..

I had a lot of extra curricular involvement in high school

church groups

babysitting

volunteer work

mission trips

clubs

starting a club

foreign exchanges (outside of school)

3 different jobs

sports

my high school gpa was a 3.4

my act score was a 27; english: 33, math: 28, science: 26, reading: 27 ; writing: 10

i am currently in college (for the fall semester) and am taking 5 classes.. one including advanced english

i plan on writing the optional essay and possibly optional letter of recommendation

i plan on getting involved with stuff on campus until i transfer

so basically.... all i want to know is if i could/have a good chance of getting accepted into the spring 2013 semester at pitt

also... what should i do to improve my chances.. what should i write my essay on.. and when should i send in my application so that i get into the 2013 spring semester??

and should i apply for the general studies or business school (would either affect my chances?)

You need to contact the admissions office about transferring. Transfers into the second semester are not easily done. Most colleges focus heavily on their freshman acceptances and THEN look at the transfer applications AFTER the freshman class is taken care of.

The other issue you are going to have is that you will be transfer student without any college grades. When you transfer, the most important thing of all; what transcends everything are your grades at college. You won’t have those until the end of the term, and you are talking about a very tight time frame in getting those grades to Pitt and for admissions to make the decision and you enrolling. I don’t even think it is possible with the holidays.

You need to call PItt and see if it isn’ t possible to just apply for second semester as a non transfer student but as a first year student. Your transfer status is going to be a hang up, IMO. You are a good candidate for Pitt and they may well accept you for the second semester as a non transfer but you may not fit into their transfer procedures because of the above time element. Transfers need college grades.
