so, im a junior in hs. i dont have awesome grades, and barely any EC's. T.T
i have little volunteering work done, and i have like an overall 2.5 GPA. TT.TT
i have no idea how to apply for college, i literally know like nothing. "/
i dont think ill ever get any EC's... argggg.

but very slowly, ive been improving, GPA-wise since freshman year.
i am planning to get lots of work exp, and volunteer work ovr winter/summer break.
im fulfillin all required/recommended classes for like all UC's.
im takin college level courses, like ap calc, ap psych.
im a pretty outgoing person, and i think in person i would be a lot more interesting,
but because i did so bad fresh/soph, i dont have many teachers that i can get a letter of recommendation from. so thats kinda bad.... i wanna go to a pretty decent university. i pretty much need any help i can get...
im pretty sure there are lots of other juniors in my position, but idk.. i like to dream big, and right now, its kinda hard. :P

should i just give it up, like honestly,
not like to be pathetic, or gain sympathy,
but what are the chances of someone like me going to a good UC?? >.<

any help will be much, MUCH appreciated.
need lotss of help~~ argg. thanks? >.<

Get good grades this year.

Study for the SAT/APs

Those teachers you are going to get good grades from this year will be writing good recs for you next September.

What else do you do (what are your ecs?) If you don't have any, think about what you like to do best. It doesn't have to be music or sports. What do you care about most? Find a way to pursue this interest in your free time: join or form a club or volunteer at an organization that is about that interest. Do you have a good GC at your school? That person has probably seen one million ways kids have gotten involved, and will know what is available in your school and community in your interest area.

Your chances are fantastic because you have a whole year before you will fill out an application, and you are motivated. You have almost half of your high school career in front of you. Go for it! Please post here soon and tell us what you've done to move forward on your ecs.

Well said, riverrunner! This is absolutely the right time to be thinking about this, and you have no excuse for not ACTING on what you've identified as a problem.

Be good to your teachers this year! Participate in class, turn your assignments in on time, study hard, and be interested. Even if you don't get A's, there will be teachers who will write positive recommendations if they see you doing these things.

And don't forget that the UC and Cal State University systems offer a huge number of great options. You might not get into Cal, but there's a place for you somewhere! (actually, you might get into Cal; you do realize they don't count your freshman year grades, right?)

You know, with the stats you have so far, ECs just aren't all that important. The reason you hear so much about ECs on this board is because so many kids are competing for so few slots at such insanely selective schools. They need ECs to differentiate themselves. But most students apply to schools that have much higher acceptance rates than Harvard, Princeton, and Yale (and others), and ECs just aren't all that vital to being accepted.

If there's an activity you would like to do, then do it. Have fun. Concentrate on your grades, because those are what's going to make a difference for you.

im actually just a missionary now… but thanks for the advice. also, feel free to support me but yeap, no college for me. i live only for jesus. if youre interested at all in any way, email me (:
