I put this thread on a different forum. Thanks to those who offered input. Still could use a little more information and insight into three schools for youngest S. He has been accepted into FSU (brother goes there), UNF (honors program) and Florida Southern (Lakeland, private). They are very different schools but he likes things about each one. We have visited each school twice. His intended major is criminology. Does anyone have any knowledge of or insight into Florida Southern? There isn't much on the CC.

Small LAC. Not anything like FSU. Smaller classes. Less variety of classes. One would get to know faculty easier/sooner. Not as competitive in terms of admissions as FSU, but neither is UNF. To be honest, Florida Southern and FSU are complete opposites in many ways. FSC is thought of fairly well. It usually rates well on the US News regional college list for the south. Interesting architecture with many Frank Lloyd Wright buildings. Lakeland is a small town and not at all like Tallahassee. It is so small there are just not that many students or grads who are likely to post on CC.

^Agreed. FSC is not like FSU at all.

If he wants to study criminology FSU has one of the [oldest and highest rated programs in the United States](http://criminology.fsu.edu/p/about-intro.php). Additionally, FSU now offers the [Computer Criminology major](http://www.criminology.fsu.edu/p/academic-computer-criminology.php), which is an innovative and timely aspect of the discipline.

Thanks you two. . .I knew you would post! I envy the kids who know what they want and where they want to go right out of the box, but mine don’t fall into that category! Oldest S thought he wanted to major in music and received the best scholarship Eastman School of Music had to offer. So he went there for 1 year and decided neither a music conservatory nor a music major were right for him. So he came back to his beloved FSU for an entirely different major, but contact with music profs and students. So now he is very happy. Youngest S may have to do something similar since he can’t decide between a school with 2000 or 40,000 students and other differences! He is a rather shy A/B student who will probably not stand out amongst the crowd at FSU and may enjoy more friendships at FSC. We are trying to give a little input, but leave the final decision up to him.
