I have already chosen five colleges that I will be applying to: Mount Holyoke College, American University, Smith College , Wheaton College, and Boston University. However, with an unweighted G.P.A. of only about 3.5-3.6 and an SAT of 1800, these colleges and universities are more like reaches. So, can anybody suggest some matches for someone with these stats who wants to major in International Relations/Affairs/Studies? I would prefer that the colleges and universities be in New England, New York, or Washington, D.C. Thanks!

Some safeties thrown in would also be appreciated.

It would be better to state your SAT on M & CR only. Many schools do not use the Writing score.

Even w/ the SAT, Wheaton, MA is a solid match, nearly a safety.

If you like Wheaton, here are common overlap schools:

Connecticut College (match; but should demonstrate interest, ie visit and/or interview)

University of Vermont (nearly a safety)

Clark University (solid match to safety)

Skidmore College (match but have to demonstrate genuine interest)

Stonehill College (match)

For merit money, chances are actually better in Ohio, eg, schools like Denison, Ohio Wesleyan. For merit money in any location, chances are better when you are well above the minimums to be accepted.

This is why I am probably better apply to test-optional schools.

I know Connecticut, Mount Holyoke, Smith, and Wheaton are all test-optional. Are there any others that are as well that would be a good match for me?

Skidmore and Stonehill are on my list.

I heard the University of Vermont doesn’t give a lot of FA to out of state students and I heard it’s one of the most expensive schools for out of state students to attend.
