I'm currently applying to Colgate, Brandeis, Lafayette, Wesleyan, Vanderbilt, Ithaca, Carnegie Mellon. I got into my safety (UConn) and didnt get into my reach (Tufts).

I'm looking for some schools that have the Tufts type of atmosphere.
Any suggestions??

STATS:
GPA: 3.72 UW (Mostly honors and AP)
ACT: 31
SAT II: Chem- 750, Math IIC- 760
Lots of EC's w/ leadership + service
NHS, etc.

I'm not sure whether to apply to UPenn or not (my grandpa went there as a grad student so I'm somewhat of a legacy)

I'm just a believer in having some similar options in different categories of selectivity. I hear an aweful lot of this is "my dream school", "I don't want to go to my safety", "I'm applying to only Ivies", etc... I'm glad when they ask. Unfortunately, some don't ask or don't see that there are many schools that can fit their wants and needs.

Any more suggestions that are similar to Tufts and are in the Northeast area?
I sort of have to let my teachers / school know tomorrow because I'm leaving for vacation-- sorry for such short notice!

A school very similar to Tufts, but easier to get into would be the University of Rochester. They also give out merit aid for your ACT score and GPA.

I was also considering brandeis, though I found it to have an indecribably strange vibe.

What appealed to me the most about rochester were the people. They are all incredibly diverse, and stereotypes don't seem to fit at all. The slacker kid is a philosophy major, the asian kid minors in music, the valley girl is into brain and cognitive sciences. I was blown away by how accepting everyone is of each other and how they all seem to kin of bond when it comes to working hard. Also, the open curriculum is really cool, yet makes it hard to transfer out should you ever want to.
