Hi,

My son has decided on NEU. They responded favorably to an appeal letter and we are thrilled that this is possible.

He was wondering about recommendations for freshman dorms. Any other advice for move-in would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Stetson East and West have the cafeterias in their dorms so you aren’t walking outside when it’s nasty out. You may be able to game this as these are also LLC (living learning communities) fancy way of saying floors for like majors. Stetson West used to be Engineering, Stetson East, Business. There are also common interest floors etc. For example, after putting down his major floor has his first choice he might put down another special interest floor (such as leadership) in the dorm that he likes thus gaming the system a bit. Speare is quite similar to Stetson e/w and just a short walk to either Stetson E/W so that’s not a good choice too. If he wants to go old school, select Smith Hall on Hemingway Street. This used to be the upper class dorm of choice before they put in West Village. It’s old but terrific. I liked it better than the Stetsons or Speare (I was in all three) and they also have a lot of singles.

If he is honors, West Village F is the way to go.

Avoid White Hall. It’s big, noisy and too close to Huntington Ave.

Your son can learn more about this at:

[Northeastern University Department of Housing & Residential Life](http://www.northeastern.edu/reslife/)

Also he can check the facebook Northeastern University 2013 or 2014 groups to see what others are doing.

Hope that helps. Go Huskies.

As a freshman, my daughter lived in – and liked – Kennedy Hall, a brownstone on Hemenway, a street that seemed populated nearly exclusively by NEU students. She’s now a ‘middler’ (3rd year student) and liked that area so much, she’s back on Hemenway, in a non-university apartment a few doors down from Kennedy.

Northeastern housing will be different this coming year because Parcel 18 will be open. Houses some absurd number of people and has its own gym and dining hall. A lot of the freshman will be placed there, including all honors and LLCs. West Village will be upperclassmen only from now on.

Also, you don’t get to request housing, so it’s really up to luck.

Ok, since there’s no choice…any advice for getting a roommate? … Beyond the questionnaire that he has to answer?

If he says he’s not tidy, does that mean that he gets paired with someone who is messy? He’s not the tidiest in the world, but it’s relative and if he’s put with someone messy what kind of disaster would it be?

I think your questions can be much more efficiently answered in the Northeastern Forum. I would be honest on the questionaire so your son would be matched up best as possible. I know I’m tidy so I hope I get a clean roommate!!!
