So i'm taking math3a, and a&arch. I'm still deciding on my third class.. most of the one's I like/interested in (such as hist2c) are full and I'm on the waiting list. I'm number 3, do you think the TA will let me in/give me the PTE number? Currently I'm enrolled in hist 9e.

Also, any other GE recommendation.. I feel like I should take my writing II req (I already passed writing I from my AP lit/lang score) instead. Is it common for freshmen to take writing II and how hard is it?

your waitlist chances are pretty good, it just depends on what kind of ta you get...and how comfortable you feel waitlisting (do you want to spend the rest of the summer unsure of your schedule...?)

as far as GEs, you can definitely do your writing II requirement as a freshman. Considering you passed AP lit/lang you shouldn't have a problem with your writing skills. The difficulty of a writing II class depends mostly on the subject at this point:
if you are good at english essays (closest to the high school model): English 4W would be pretty easy. This class is nice because the instructor has a lot of freedom in the curriculum (nothing like the doldrums of the classes that focus on old old english literature...ugh). My instructor created a "body/mind" themed syllabus that included contemporary literature, poetry, and film (we actually watched videodrome holy crap, pretty much amazing...)

if you prefer history papers, which can be more reseach based, then go for that
I think i satisfied by writing II requirement at least 3 times during my freshman year, and it wasn't very difficult. I did have a slightly harder time with the history/research papers than the english ones.
My classes were composed of everyone from freshmen to seniors but that didnt make the classes any harder. but that does lead to my next point-->
Don't worry about satisfying everything right away, you have time and you won't be alone. But, if you dont have any clue what you want to major in, then try out some GEs first and get a taste of everything, before you end up doing too many required classes for a major you eventually switch out of.

YouTube - Videodrome (Trailer)

(beware that if you take English 4W fall quarter you are going to be around more freshman english majors...if you take it winter quarter the class will probably have more upper-class non-english majors)

thanks for the info. hopefully i'll get enrolled in the class. how do we know the TA's name.. so I can contact them about the waitlist, maybe?

you probably won't know your ta's name before class starts (at some point it does change on myucla studylist to show the ta's name...but i dont know when)
it's pretty easy to find your professor's email address...with links from myucla or the course description...or just google it
and if they check their email in the summer, they might let you know your chances
and also, watch the schedule of classes to see if people drop or switch out of a different section...and you might be able to move up the waitlist... or into an annoying 8am class...

if you really want the class you are waitlisted in, then dont worry too much about it, you should be able to get in
