Need one more school...

Hi,
I'm looking for one more school to round out my application list. I was going to apply to Ohio University, but the town turned oit to be too small for liking. I was thinking DePaul (love Chicago), but I am worried by the low percentage that live on campus. I'm looking for an urbana/semi-urbana school with >3000 undergrades, preferably middle-sized (I already have to huge ones on my list), not in the South (NC is okay), offering Japanese, preferably with a strong bio department or even better a pharmacy school. Preferably a safety/match.

Stats:
33 ACT, top 2% of my class as of junior year, 11 APs by graduation 6 years of Japanese, decent ECs, etc.

Current list:
Purdue (Match?)
UIUC (Match?)
Case EA (Reach?)
UMontana (Safety)
Thanks.

for the very popular Japanese/Pharmacy combination:

University of the Pacific
U of Colorado
U of Iowa
U Michigan
U of Montana (not sure if Pharm School is in Missoula)
SUNY Albany (not sure Pharm Schl is SUNY)
Ohio State
U Pittsburg
U of Utah
U Wisconsin Madison

umm... actually ohio university is my first choice and even though it is a small town there is A LOT to do. I took class there over the summer and i can give you info if you want.. it is an amazing school really. If you havent visited you should visit to get the full effect and its only a half hour away from columbus so the town thing is deceiving. As far as your list goes:

Purdue-safety- i just got in with lower stats than you have
UIUC-safety- definitely in
Case-match
and take off umontana and replace it with ohio univ.(hidden jewel)
also add univ of dayton (another hidden jewel of a school)
and if you are willing to compromise and go to a true small town you could add miami(OH)

I think Case is a match for you- you're from Ohio right? I think. :)

Nope, I'm from TX (and wanna get out of here.) I looked at UMontana and loved it, so that's definitely one of the schools I'm applying to. I also looked at Utah and was turned off. My reservation about OU is that I don't think I could continue my martial arts training in Athens.

Stacey declares Athens sucks. Yes, I agree. Ummm, I can't think of anything that fits your requirements (I'm drawing up only on smaller LAC's in rural areas). Grr.....

whoa... wats up with ppl dissing athens... nobody ever disses athens

Just a clarification here... The school doesn't have to have a pharmacy school. I realize that most schools don't and would be willing to go elsewhere (though perferably in the same state) for pharm.

Wolfpiper, after taking my daughter to visit:

Boston College
William & Mary
Washington & Lee
Bucknell
Franklin & Marshall
Dickinson (twice-second visit 2 weeks ago for an overnight)
Gettysburg (twice-second visit 2 weeks ago for an overnight)

She had yet to be "grabbed" by any of these schools. After spending the night and attending classes the next day at each of the last two she thought she "could probably be happy here."

then last week we stepped foot on the beautiful campus of
U of Montana - Missoula, and, lo and behold, halfway through the tour she leaned toward me and said "this is where I'm going to college!"

She said it felt like a cross between Vermont (where we live) and New Zealand (where she spent 3 glorious weeks with her school's wilderness club).

The ONLY hesitation she had was that it was so easy to get in and she knew she could get in to a more difficult school. I asked her if she thought she'd be happy at Montana and if she thought that was the most important thing in this college search. She agreed and her decision has been made.

After two years of my guiding her toward small LACs and other schools that I figured were a good match for her, I've come to realize that statistics, ratings, and bragging rights are simply ridiculous. My daughter could never tell me where she wanted to go based on books. The campuses we visited just never appealled to her instincts or her heart and she didn't even know why.

Trust your intuition. Follow your heart and it will lead you where you need to go!

Do you have to go to a pharamcy school for undergrad? Why not just do bio during undergrad and go to pharmacy school for grad school.

Pittsburgh (have to beat on collegehelp again for the misspelling....) has a strong asian community and a great Pharmacy Program, and I believe with your stats you can get automatic admittance to the 6-year Pharm-D program. I know someone who took Japanese at Pitt in addition to computer science and didn't have a problem and I believe he also was active in martial arts. It's one I'd definately put into your radar!

Pitt alum. '04
UNC-CH grad student

I was actually going to recommend UNC-CH and doing bio. One of the most amazing college experiences out there and it seems to fit what you are looking for. I think you are aiming way too low with your current list, all those are safeties including Case. You are in range for places like Northwestern with your stats, not Depaul!

purdue's pharmacy school is excellent
