I went to one of the best prep schools in America, and I did decently. I was a solid B student, Old sat's of 1370 when i took them, and around 650-700's on my 3 sat II's. AP classes and tests arent as important at prep school, but i got a 5 on my english AP. Also, things like class rank dont play a factor comming from Prep School.

Im at Wesleyan University right now. I got 3 A-'s and 1 B this first semester, which comes out to a 3.5 GPA. I was thinking of filling out a transfer application to Brown, do i have a shot?

The things i have going for me are comming from a good well known prep school, going to a top 10 liberal arts university, and getting good grades my first semester there.

Does anyone know anything about transfering to brown? How do my chances look? Any advice?

Why not apply after two years? I'm pretty sure there well be hundreds of kids applying with 3.9+ GPA's. But many of them might be coming from community colleges, so I'm not sure. Wouldn't hurt to apply.

haha, that other post about the spelling was obnoxious and ridiculous. douchebag. anyway, we're all transfer hopefuls here, and none of us can really help you even if we were to give you our opinions. wesleyan is a great school and you have a good college gpa, so you have a pretty good shot i think. also, i've heard brown is more transfer-friendly. just go for it. what have you got to lose?

I'm sorry man, I was just having a little fun back there.

Being a first-year student, your HS stats wil be looked at pretty closely. Going to an extremely prestigious prep school will no doubt be a major factor. Your B average there will definitely be evaluated with this in mind. A 1370 SAT isn't fantastic, but it's a perfectly acceptable score within Brown's range of acceptees.

Making the smooth transition to college is probably your biggest drawing card. You have demonstrated your ability to succeed at a high-quality LAC, and I'm sure that the Brown admissions officers will keep this in mind. Brown is very transfer friendly, as dabillano mentioned, so why not apply? All they can say is no. Given your stats, you probably have a decent shot.

If you don't mind me asking, what are your reasons for a transfer? From the sound of your first post, it was difficult to ascertain any measure of discontent regarding your current situation. Keep in mind the transition that will have to be made upon switching schools. My suggestion is that you apply to Brown and just see what happens, then make a decision. You may be settled into Wesleyan (a fine institution in its own right) and decide that a transfer may not be worth it. Good luck.

i appreciate the thoughts. Its not that i dont like wesleyan, I just always really liked brown during high school, but i didnt apply becuase i didnt think i had a shot of getting in. Ive been kicking myself about that for a while now, and i figure i might as well give it a shot, which would also give me an out if i really dont like wesleyan by the end of this year. I'm not trying to transfer out of wesleyan, Brown is the only transfer app im filling out. Psychologically right now, I just need an out.

i have the opposite issue, i had a 3.6 at Cornell, but my high school record is the best part for me, top 2-3 percent of my school, UNWEIGHTED, we didn't weight grades, i was competing against kids that took no honors, i had a 1450 SAT and 3 SAT IIs 700+
