but isnt it from 2007?

If you’re looking for the real rankings that everyone on CC uses, US News is the “official” rankings, MSU is ranked in the top 60-70 schools, Stonybook and UMass are ranked in the 90s-100s

Just curious, I live in NY so I’m not aware of michigan schools, but is msu for students who did not make it into umich?

Also is msu’s business program good?

well there are three Michigan public universities that have are somewhat known:

University Of Michigan - Ann Arbor

Michigan State University

Michigan Technological University

Michigan State is strong in engineering, science, communications. It has the best political science program in Michigan, the only agriculture school in the state and an amazing school of Hospitality Business.

Many students have selected to attend University of Michigan-Ann Arbor over Michigan State University, while many have decided to attend Michigan State University over University of Michigan- Ann Arbor.

how come? is it because of financial issues?

the caliber of students at Michigan State is excellent, just because it’s 2nd on Michigan’s public education “scale” doesn’t mean that the school is bad at all especially when UMichigan is one of the top schools in the country, you can get a equal or better education at MSU than many flagship state colleges

Michigan State would be my first choice then UMASS, Stony Brook 3rd. Now it depends on finances. What are the financials?

well assuming that you are not a resident of any of the three states of your top 3 schools, here’s how much each school should cost (tuition + room/board):

MSU: $32,798 (2008-2009, subject to increases due to down economy, I’d say around $34,000)
UMass: $31,505 (costs are for 2009-2010)
Stony Brook: $23,918 (2009-2010)

Some may be due to financial issues, though others I’ve heard are what they are looking for in college. Such things I’ve heard:
“University of Michigan will be better for my future career.”
“Michigan State University students are friendly.”
“University of Michigan is in a top college town, Ann Arbor.”
“Michigan State University will offer a great college life, and education.”
“University of Michigan is more respected, a top public university.”

Those are only a few, and many good comments of both university when speaking of college life and education. Though it’s obvious most opinions of University of Michigan- Ann Arbor is education, while Michigan State University may lack behind University of Michigan- Ann Arbor in being top notch in educuation ( yet still great), many do not regret their experience/attendence at the school.

overall I’d say that since there isn’t much difference between UMass and MSU, that you go to MSU, I think that it’s worth $9,000 extra to go to MSU than Stony Brook unless you really can’t afford that

MSU is a great school. I’m more of a UMich person, in fact UMich and Dartmouth were my two “reach” schools when I was applying. But MSU is not a place where you just go there to transfer to UMich…you go to MSU and you’ll be a Spartan for life, I promise. From what I’ve seen and heard from friends it’s a beautiful place.

You can read up more on MSU on their Wikipedia site, which is probably one of the best collegiate wiki articles.

[Michigan State University - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Michigan State University - Wikipedia)

Especially look at the pictures of the MSU campus, which looks really nice, to me.

MSU is a great school, though it’s HUGE.

It’s not somewhere you go to transfer to UMich, like osu said…

Excellent school for business, sciences (esp related to ag), etc.

Michigan State definitely isn’t just for those who didn’t get into UMich. If you like a larger (read: huge) school with a ton of school spirit, that’s a great place for you to be. Around here, it’s just as respected as the U of M, and probably would be in other places, too.

Out of the schools on your list, I’d pick MSU.
