I got to a competitive public school, i take a very hard courseload.. 3 AP's this year, and 5 next year. (im currently a junior). But my GPA has suffered.. drastically...

I really screwed up sophomore year but my grades have shown improvement in junior year and im left with a GPA of 3.2'ish/4.0(school GPA).
I got a 33 on the ACT's..
I have not recieved my SAT results yet but im expecting in the 2200's range.

If i get 5's on all my AP's and get 700+ on my SAT II's(only taking SATII for CHem as of now) do you think i have a chance at any of these colleges:

University Of Michigan - Ann Arbor
Michigan State University
Wash U
University of Chicago
New York University

I was also wondering is there anything this summer i could do that would increase my chances... such as getting an internship, job, ect..

Any opinions/advice would be great.. thanks

anyone got any suggestions?

last bump.. btw my high school was rated in the 500's for top high schools of the US. I think that is supposed to be good.

hmmm your act is not bad although your gpa is junk. 3 aps is not exactly a challenging courseload (I take 3 and I hardly ever have to do anything outside of school). I guess you have a shot at those colleges, but not a good one. slight reach

Your GPA will definitely be a blemish on your application, but if you really distinguish yourself through your essays, (start as soon as possible) you'll have significantly higher chances for all of these schools. Try to highlight what you've achieved and how you've changed through your involvement in your EC's and what not.

Good luck!

i live in michigan so U of M would be instate.. also one of my parents went there so i have alumni. For Wash U, i have 3 cousins who went there... would this help my chances? Are they all very far reaches?

cousins wouldn't help, (they don't count for legacy) unless you get them to talk to professors and pull some strings or something lol

Your choice colleges are reaches, not "very far reaches". You have a decent chance of acceptance for each. Just make your character shine through your essays and EC's, and you will get into several.

oh, and your legacy for U of M would help you there also, significantly.
