atomicfusion...you have a good point...okay slowly breathing in and out I am calm and I am not overly anxious... Thank you for raising that point! Faline2, about GWU, I think you're right again because when I visited the campus, I think I liked the area more than the college community...you said that UVa would be good...I like the idea, but do you think that it would be a good match for me? I considered it a while back and for some reason I thought that UVa, although it's an excellent school, wasn't the place for me. The sad thing is I don't quite remember what that reason is so maybe I should say that UVa is on my list. Oh, and xegurl424, thanks for the translation!

Yes.. I like UVa for you and I think you are the kind of OOS student that they will consider for a Yes. Please write very thoughtful essays for UVa..they are big on strong essays. You don't have to pick a school till April! So don't..that is unless Yale picks you. My S really did not know what he was going to do till near the end of April. Although I personally like smaller colleges for undergrad, UVa is an exception due to the fine peer group and quality of life in Charlottesville. No one ever wants to leave. They do have internships and many do leave for cities for semesters.
Please remember that a third of the kids were raised in DC burbs, a fifth of the kids are from homes from very wealthy homes, another third are top stat out of staters, and they have just made it easier for kids to come to UVa who have real financial need but can now leave without any loans or debt. So it doesn't have that hothouse atmosphere of privilege as intensely as some privates. As a military brat, you might like meeting sons and daughters of federal workers on the beltway...they are all bright even though they are not necessarily wealthy from Gov't work. They are rich in other ways. Although there is a preppy vibe and people actually dress up for football, UVa is economically diverse and there are so many bright and interesting kids there. The atmosphere is wonderful. You do have to be prepared to not live on campus all four years but the campus is gorgeous and Charlottesville is beckoning. Biggest negative to me is large intro class size, but the school feels like a LAC half its size regardless due to the lovely campus and casual vibe. Everyone is outdoors walking to get around and people look fit and balanced..there is something so beautiful about Albemarle County. Also the University has a great heritage which is special.
William and Mary is often compared to Rice for atmosphere and I believe for SAT Verbals..if I remember correctly. Again..it has a very dreamy historic setting that is a rare experience and is coastal in personality. Right up the road to the beach...and not far from the Capitol City of Richmond. I like Wm and Mary for the incredibly dedicated faculty and the smaller classrooms and more intimate atmosphere. Again..a third of the school is DC/Norfolk based and not unfamiliar to a military brat...diverse beyond instate in other places in the US. Students at UVa and Wm and Mary will challenge you.

Okay! I'm convinced! I'll apply to UVa as well. By the way, good luck to all of us and hopefully we'll all get into awesome schools! Thanks for the advice Faline2 and if you have any more to give I'll be listening! :)

Hm I didn't read the rest of this thread... I hope my post isn't anachronous.

I think you have a pretty decent shot at Yale. Good luck.

Thanks theoneo...and good luck to you next year! I hope that even if I don't get in my dream school that you get in yours! (I'm thinking that it's Yale but I could be wrong...) Anyway, thank you!

Sent you a PM..

Thanks for the PM! Now, let me see if I can figure out how to send you one...

Heh...I figured it out...yay! (I'm easily happy about little things.)

oh...question for anybody to answer...if I sent my Yale paper application on October 27 for SC Early Action, is it normal to not get a note confirming that they received my application around now? I'm sorry, I'm a little scared because I have been looking around CC and see that some of my fellow SCEA applicants have already received something from Yale.

Update: SATII tests
- Biology: 760
- Math IIC: 770
- Literature: 670

Great job on your SATIIs..congrats..will add more strength to your files.

Thanks Faline2, and about my fear of Yale not confirming receipt of my application, that's gone! :) I received the admissions office's e-mail today! YAY! Two good things today!
