I'm currently a sophomore at NYU. I just applied out of GSP into Stern, but didn't make it and I will be in CAS. (3.81 doesn't do it, I guess.) Anyway, I applied to Penn and Cornell on time as reaches, just to see if I could get in, but now I definitely do not want to go to NYU anymore upon the announcement that tuition will be going up AGAIN by 5.5%. Frankly, I'm fed up with NYU because I feel like it's blind robbery. The activities and utility gained from other 40k, campus centered schools might be worth it, but it definitely isn't here. So, I'm looking for any schools that might sympathize with me since I didn't know tuition was going up again for the next year and thus, did not apply to transfer to their school and missed the deadline. Are there any very competitive schools that might understand?? Thank you for your help!

Hmm well there are certainly some great schools that have later deadlines, including Washington University in St. Louis, Emory, Grinnell College, and Northwestern. A 3.8 at NYU is pretty impressive, though I'm not sure GSP is given as much credit as CAS/Stern/etc. It's definitely worth a shot, and those schools are considerably better than NYU: you'd be a pretty competitive applicant, in my opinion.

As for bringing up your scenario to schools where the deadline has passed, I would advise against it as even if they do make an exception, I think it'll come across as if you are applying to those schools only because the tuition at NYU went up. As I've shown, there are a decent number of excellent schools still accepting transfer apps, and I'm sure I've missed a few. Look into those options.
