NEED QUICK RESPONSE!! Should I retake?

Applying to mostly Ivy-level schools.

2010 SAT
28 ACT

But!! I need to take another Subject Test for Harvard.

I was planning on on taking the Sub. Test in Jan. and the ACT over in Feb. But I feel like I have a better hold in the SAT. Should I stick to my plan and just cram for the next month for the ACT (even though a bunch of schools may not get it on time) or ditch retaking the subject test and take the regular SAT instead (which most schools should get)?

Thanks

Well telling us your subject test scores would be of help.

I think your current scores are very sub-par at the moment for Ivies. If you have decent Subject test scores already, then I advise you to take the SAT since the ACT is too late for most, if not all, schools.

And what if my subject test scores are not all "decent?"

Depending on your definition of "decent". If its about the same level as your SATs, then I recommend SATs still. You should only take them again if they are truly bad. If you have 650+ you should take the SATs. If they are 600+ then its kinda of a coinflip and you should choose yourself. If its any less, then just quit trying to get into the Ivies.

The SAT 1 is more important than the Subject Tests. If you are planning to apply to Ivies, especially Harvard, then you should definitely take the SATs again. However, all this depends on a lot of things. If you have already taken the SAT 1 three times or more, it would probably be better not to take the SAT, maybe the ACT, but, as you said, you feel more confident on the SAT and you wouldn't receive your scores on time for a lot of colleges. Also, a lot of it depends on your GPA. Make sure you have some back-up schools that are competitive, but not Ivies. My brother had an SAT score of 2190 and got put on the waiting list for Kenyon! He ended up at the small but competitive liberal arts college of Grinnell in Iowa. Good luck!

Well I think you're being a little mean, khoitrinh. I asked for advice - not inaccurate criticism.

unless you're a URM or have some other hook I honestly don't think your current scores will cut it for the Ivies

My question was not whether or not I would get in - merely one of strategy. I have connections at said schools.

"If they are 600+ then its kinda of a coinflip and you should choose yourself. If its any less, then just quit trying to get into the Ivies."

Hm. No, I think that's pretty accurate. It's good advice Rach, you might just save a few stamps.

Khoitrinh isn't being mean, just realistic. This is your thread- be grateful that people are even responding. Besides, no one is forcing you to listen, you can ignore as you wish.
