Need Reaches!

LAC students claim that research opportunities can be excellent because there are no graduate students to compete with! Lots of top LACs have great biology departments. Check out Middlebury and Williams for reaches and Colgate, Colby, Grinnell (if midwest is OK) for matches.

Colby has an excellent science center if that helps and is a great LAC all around.

Wow, I never realized the LACs had such great opportunities, will definitely consider.

Give Colgate a look:

[Colgate University : Biology](http://www.colgate.edu/academics/departments/biology.html)

Colgate seems like a great opportunity, would Colgate (or other LACs) be up to par with the larger research schools?

look at university of richmond- excellent science programs and opportunities and I am told very good chances of financial help- another good LAC outside of the northeast but not “very southern”

Awesome awesome, thanks!

Anyone else think differently?

Come on people, don’t be shy.

Enlighten me with your wisdom!

Bumpity bump!

Reaches are the easiest for most students to come up with.

Biology is strong at many schools.

How many did you want to apply to?

In your financial situation, have you run the EFC numbers? Many students think they are low income only to find out FAFSA doesn’t classify them as such.

After checking out EFC, I would simply suggest you limit your reach school list by the schools which promise to meet full need with no loan or minimum loan. You can further limit by location. Williams is a wonderful school but often does not appeal to the same student who likes JHU.

You’ve gotten some great schools suggested, yet you are still looking for more. That suggests to me you didn’t love many of the suggested schools. So, if you have looked into some of these schools, let us know what you do not like about them and from there other suggestions could be made.

EFC estimator says 0, JHU EFC estimator says 200.

I have been trying to consider the schools suggested to me, sorry if I have not showed much feedback.

JHU - Decided to apply as a reach

Ivy league suggestions - Still seem out of orbit, I will attempt if I have time (trying to be reasonable)

LACs - Trying to narrow which ones I would apply to. Interested, but not as appealing as a school in a more urban environment (and bigger class size). I’m thinking of applying to two or three, so far I’ve decided on Colgate.

I’d REALLY prefer a location near a city-like location, willing to sacrifice depending on academic appeal of the school.

I’ve had some great replies so far, I just would like to hear more opinions and options.

Check out Tufts, JHU, and the Liberal Arts Colleges everyone is talking about.
