Hello,

I will be a senior in the upcoming school year and i'm very scared if i will be admitted to a university at all.
Freshman year i messed up pretty bad... Dropping from honors classes and the same grade point carrying over to regular classes. My GPA and rank from 1st semester of junior year on a 4.0 scale was above a 3.0. and i was ranked 325 out of 581 students. I do not yet know my rank counting my second semester of junior year.

My SAT score is around 1800.

Because of my horrible freshman year, i've loaded on extra curricular activities and i've made sure all of my grades now are A's in regular courses and greater than an 80 in honors courses.

I've taken the computer science ap, ap us history, english language ap, and psychology ap.

I'm an active leader and member in 9 clubs at my school and i strive to be a helpful individual in my community.

Do i have hope? With my low GPA, low SAT score.... Would U of H or A&M even consider me?

I've gotten letters from colleges. U of H has sent me two already.

Any help, advice, or tips would greatly be appreciated.

Thankyou.

If there is a personal reason that your grades were insufficient freshman year then you can communicate that through your application. However, if your SAT score is well below the averages of the colleges that you’re looking at and you don’t shine in another way (very strong involvement in extracurriculars rather than just joining a few random clubs) then I don’t think that you will realistically get into the colleges that you’re looking at. I haven’t looked into U of H or A&M so I don’t know their standards. Best of luck with whatever you do :’) I guess you’ll just have to wait until after you submit your applications.

I plan on re-taking the SAT and hopefully meeting the standards for the U of H and A&M. If I meet the test score requirements and if I make top 50% of my class could I have a chance? I’m too 55% now.

You have a shot at UH and UT Dallas. However, A&M is highly unlikely as you’re nowhere near top 10% - in texas, your rank matters A LOT. Check out Southwestern University and Saint Edward’s, too - since they’re private, they’re free to consider course rigor (APs) and upward trend, rather than rank. Check out universities in nearby states: Oklahoma U, Louisiana State, Centenary of Louisiana, even Loyola-New Orleans.
What do you hope to major in?
Note that getting letters from colleges means nothing, unfortunately. It’s just a gimmick for you to think about applying there. It doesn’t mean you’re a shoo in, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply. :)

Either mechanical, chemical, electrical, or petroleum engineering.

What’s the best if we consider the next 10 years?
