Since we will be needing to bring our own battery-operated playback devices for unifieds, I though I would solicit recommendations from those of you who have gone before us! We will be flying to Unifieds, and since suitcase space is at a premium we really would like one that's fairly small, but powerful enough to sound decent in a fairly large room in case we end up in one.

Anyone want to share what worked well (and what didn't!) in prior years?

A couple of years ago, my D put all of her music on her IPod and brought a small plug in speaker unit that worked great. Since then, there are even smaller IPods and speaker units out. That seems to be the easiest way to go and the most reliable, but maybe others have better ideas.

I’m sorry, I wasn’t very clear! Yes, that is the plan. We will bring the music on her iPod (and mine, just for a backup!).

What I am looking for is specific speaker unit recommendations. There are a billion of them out there, I know, but I’d love to know which ones work well and which don’t and of the ones that do, which are fairly inexpensive and small.

Hi! This is what we got a couple months ago. D has been rehearsing with it and it’s great. Great sound and slips right into a computer bag slot. It also takes batteries and has removable electric cord. It’s not super inexpensive, but still a good buy for the quality.

We also have the JBL speaker kksmom mentions. It is very good and has been a reliable and useful companion for our daughter. Would definitely recommend.

Ooh, that’s a little more than I was hoping to spend! I kind of thought to keep it under $50. Any other recommendations, or is this the standard!

Tracy-
My S used the imt325 Altec Lansing speaker. very compact with great sound. It was about $30 at Costco, IIRC, but I just looked it up on Amazon and it is about $42.

I picked up a 15 dollar stereo at shopko. It worked great and played CD’s. And it was all i needed. In fact, people often asked to borrow it when their ipods pooped out and whatnot. And it plugged into the wall, and that was never ever a problem. I wouldnt overcomplicate (or overpay!) this part of the process!
