need safety school suggestions?!?!?

GPA: 3.6 UW (huge upward trend)
SAT: 2200+ (I've only taken practice tests so far)
ACT: 35 (average of four practice tests)
no class rank

EC: decent/average

my college list comprises of a mix of big urban colleges like NYU and BU to liberal arts women colleges like Wellesley and Barnard. as you can see, i have tons of reaches but only a couple of safeties and matches. could anybody find more matches for me or tell me what they think of my current list?

Safety:
Rutgers University

Match:
Northeastern University
Boston University (favorite)
Syracuse University

Reaches:
Barnard College (favorite)
Boston College (favorite)
George Washington University
Johns Hopkins University
New York University (favorite)
Tufts University
Wellesley College (favorite)
Vassar College
Bard College

When you have some actual scores we’ll be able to make some recommendations.

Take a look at Macalester. Would be in the high match/low reach range IF you actually get those test scores.

Fordham, American U., Marquette, Pittsburgh.

If you are happy with Rutgers, are certain of admission there, can afford it without any aid other than federally determined (FAFSA) aid, and would be willing to attend if you don’t get in anywhere else that you can afford, it is fine to have only one Safety. Some people are so happy with their Safety option, that they skip the Matches altogether and have a list that includes only one Safety and a bunch of Reaches. If that works for you, it’s OK.

thanks everybody! keep them coming

and no, i kind of want to get out of new jersey if you know what i mean. and i’m not too thrilled with the idea of bumping into people i already know at rutgers.

Safety schools don’t usually give much in need-based financial aid. So, a safety school has to be affordable - that means that you have to know FOR SURE that you’ll have all costs covered thru ASSURED scholarships/grants, small federal student loans, and/or family funds.

Do you know how much your parents will pay each year for college? If not, please ask them.

Once you have real scores, and once we know your family’s budget, then we can better suggest safeties for you. Take both the SAT and ACT.

What is your likely major and career?

BTW…how did you do on your PSAT? Are you a likely NMSF?

I must mention Fordham again. Beautiful school, eclectic neighborhood, great Jesuit tradition, etc. There are a few schools in the country that are MUCH easier to get into than their faculty quality warrants…Fordham is one of these. Others include Miami of Ohio, Wisconsin, Colorado, Clark U., and Boston University. The common thread is that all of these are fairly close to and/or draw from relatively glamorous schools that are typically the first choice in that area, and these schools pick up the slack (even though they are often at least nearly as good as the first-choice schools). They are for Fordham…Columbia/NYU; for Miami…Ohio State; for Wisconsin…Northwestern; for Colorado…UCLA/Berkeley/other California schools; and for Clark and BU…the slew of top colleges in Boston.

Univ of Miami
Tulane
Univ of MD - Honors College

Thanks! I will definitely add Fordham to my list. And I want to go to law school so maybe Political Science or Economics?

Any thoughts on my current list?

Take a look at UCONN-

If you are going to attend law school, take on as little debt as possible for undergrad.

Univ of MD - Honors College

If you mean College Park, Jlpaisner, it is not a safety school for a student with a 3.6.

I have similar stats, though I have a 3.7 uw gpa. I’m also looking to major in political science and economcs and to go into law school. I’m looking at whittier college as my safety. They give really good scholarships, especially if you’re Hispanic.
Just out of curiosity, is tulane really a safety for these stats? I’m looking into their political economics program.

[Alfred University](http://www.alfred.edu)

University of Florida

thanks! anyone else?
