I don't really think I'm "hooked."

Holy Cross-great biology program with nice campus not far from Boston.

If you like LACs, take a look at Macalester, Oberlin and Grinnell. As an Indian in the midwest, you are considered a URM which helps. Your stats qualify you for merit aid at Grinnell, which also has outstanding sciences, amazing facilities, no distribution requirements and the smallest class sizes of any of the top LACs. If you prefer a more urban setting, Macalester in Minneapolis. Oberlin also has excellent sciences and because of the music conservatory, it is both a little bigger than most LACs and a top choice for students who are musically inclined.

I assume you’ll be applying to your instate flagship which would most likely be relatively affordable which is important in determining a safety (if you can’t afford to go it’s not a safety).

For what it’s worth, I don’t think that HC, Macalester, Oberlin, or Grinnel are safeties. More like matches.

Ditto Erin’s dad.

What kind of colleges are you looking for?

“Applying for some financial aid”

You need to know how much your family is willing to pay, and you also need to know how much the colleges and universities will expect your family to pay. These can be very different things. For a lot of fun(?) reading on that topic, spend some time in the Financial Aid Forum.

As Erin’s Dad says, if you can’t pay for it, it isn’t a safety. So make dead certain that your safety options are places that you can pay for without any aid other than federally determined (FAFSA) aid and/or guaranteed state aid (HOPE, Blue&Gold, Bright Futures, TAP, etc.) and/or guaranteed merit-based aid that is offered by the college/university itself.

What does that mean? Are you needing FA in order to afford college? or do you just “want some” but won’t likely qualify for aid?

Do you know if you qualify for any aid? If so, what is your likely EFC?

How much will your parents pay each year?

A safety can’t be a safety unless you know FOR SURE that you have ALL COSTS covered with assured scholarships, assured grants, small stafford loans, and family funds.

Are you pre-med?

I’m not in dire need of FA but it would be great to have some. I still have to figure out how much I’m qualified for.
Also, thanks for the suggestions guys! I’m not really looking for a liberal arts college though…any other ideas? State schools or private universities, either or is fine…

What is your home state?

You’ve missed the deadline for a lot of schools already. Better narrow your search based on that.

You should have been looking months ago, since a lot of deadlines have already passed.

To mention a few New England schools whose deadlines were handy: Univ. of Mass & Vermont have Jan 15; New Hamp, Rhode I, & Conn have Feb 1 deadline.

sorry, wrong thread.
