Need financial aid and scholarships to get through college (Tight financial situation)

Looking for some safety schools in NJ or NY area. Looking at Seton Hall and Rutgers currently. Wanna keep safeties close to home and my reach schools spread through out.

How much can your family afford? What is your home state?

In another thread, you mention needing generous financial aid and this thread says “tight financial situation”.

What is your situation? Low income? or middle income, but parents can’t pay much?

A safety MUST be affordable. Safeties often give inadequate aid, because they don’t have much money to give away.

YOU have to know FOR SURE that all costs are covered for a school to be a safety.

How much can your family pay?

If your family is low income, then like an instate public will be your safety because you’ll get fed and state aid to attend.

A school like Seton Hall won’t be a safety because you’ll be gapped and your test scores aren’t high enough for large merit.

My home state is NJ. I am in a tight situation like stated because right now my mother is unemployed due to some disabilities and my step-dad is retired. On paper his income is average but turns to dust when he recounts for his past marriage and paying for his other children’s education and paying his past wife. So i guess you could say i need A LOT of help.

Ok…

this may mean that you have an unaffordable EFC. That means that schools will expect your family to pay for more than it can afford to pay.

How much can your family pay? Nothing? Ask them.

You’re in a tough spot. Your stats aren’t likely high enough for a full ride anywhere. Any aid you get would go towards “need” and you’d still be expected to pay for the family’s EFC.

You need to study and retest. Are you practicing for the ACT?

What was your M+CR score?

What schools can you commute to?

Who is paying for the private boarding school? How much are they paying? Can they continue to pay that much towards college?

Is your father still alive? Can he help pay for anything?

Actually, there is one: Prairie View A&M, which has an automatic full ride for a 3.5 (unweighted) HS GPA and 1760 SAT score. But raising the test scores would open up more choices.

Yes, forgot about that one in Texas.
