<p>hey everyone. i'm currently a freshman at national taiwan university, doing a BA in Anthropology. but things aren't as i expected (or was told it would be) and i really don't think this is the right course for me. unfortunately, there aren't much other options available in my college, so i wouldn't consider an "internal transfer". </p>
<p>i'm actually an international student from singapore, so i did get my GCE A level cert. but i'm really worried about my college GPA and ECs. basically, everything is taught in chinese here and that's quite an obstacle for me. also, because of the difference in academic systems, i have a lot of catching up to do on general studies (which were taught in taiwanese high schools). so i doubt i'll be able to score high grades for the first year. and since i'm trying very hard to cope with schoolwork, i haven't been very involved in ECs, nor do i think i'll be able to commit as much for now. but i did join the Toastmasters chapter here as well as the international students assoc (most likely to become head of aesthetics comm since i have a background in art/design). </p>
<p>i'm not sure how the credits will transfer, but i'm skeptical. i know how they say you shouldn't focus too much on transfers, and try to make as much out of the current situation, and things might just turn positive, etc. but i'm just hoping to get things in place so transfering will be an option. </p>
<p>right now i have no idea what are my safeties, matches and reaches, but i have to get into a reasonably well-known college (same ol' asian parents reason) and i'll be needing fin aid. which i do realize will make my chances somewhat bleak, and that not many colleges offer fin aid to transfer (correct me if i'm wrong).</p>
<p>i have a lot of questions to ask. i'm really confused at the moment, but here's a few to start with: is it too early to be considering transfers? since i heard it's very hard to get a transfer as freshman (as in, will be starting as sophomore), but if i do wait til a year later, will there be a lot of credits to catch up on? if not, what should i be looking out for? </p>
<p>and does anyone know how national taiwan university is regarded in the US? will it be more difficult to transfer?</p>
