Well, I'm finishing up junior year in high school. I'd LOVE to go to UVA, but I'm extremely worried about getting in. My SAT (1860) is not going to cut it, any tips for improving that? What does UVA normally take?

GPA wise, I think i'm ok (5.19). I may be ranked anywhere between numbers 1-5 in my class of 500. 3 AP this year (a's in all 3, APCHEM,APUSH,and APENG). Either taking 5 or 6 next year (AP ENG 12, AP BIO, AP Physics B, AP Calculus, AP GOV, maybe AP CompSci) and discrete math. Expecting all a's in those too. My biggest concern is SAT, and should I shoot for the ACT as well? My parents are foreigners, so they are not completely familar with the system here, all they know is "YOU MUST GET 2400!!!!!" Middle eastern if it counts any if I mark it on the application. Thanks for the future responses!

I may not be able to speak for out-of-staters (are you?) but as for in-state, they basically want to see above 600 for the sections so they can glide right by to more important things in the application- the essay, course rigor, etc :)

Don’t stress! You sound very competitive, good luck!

Yeah i’m in state, thanks for the response. Any tips for studying for SAT, specifically math?

Practice practice practice. Do several practice tests (and do the whole thing…all 4 hours at once…get used to it, and it won’t be so overwhelming on test day). The types of questions they ask are similar on every test because otherwise it wouldn’t be standardized. So learn what types of questions you can do and which areas you need to work on. Then focus on those, but keep doing practice tests over and over.
Good luck!
