My ec's tailor my interests except ir (not that many ec's that i can think of for ir). I am more interested in policy than polysci though... I would like to skim off the reach category and maybe slightly alter my matches. I do not really see myself at too many LAC's (no offense). Also, any word on the best SAT 2's to take would be helpful. Should I retake SAT reasoning test for the last 50 points? I tend to think that I probably shouldn't retake it. Are my columns suited to my chances?

sure why not... you know your stats are excellent. no one here knows more about you than, i don't know, YOU!! pick a few schools you like, apply, and cross your fingers. that's all anyone can really tell you. you've put in the time for the ec's, you've got the scores, a few connections, etc. there's never any guarantee, but someone's gotta get in right?

i'd be willing to bet absolutely any amount of money that you get into at least one of those reaches. With straight A's in difficult courses, great SAT, SAT II, and AP scores, and good extra-curriculars, only terrible recommendations and essays will keep you out of one of your top choices. Good luck and I think you will be fine.

Hmmm... I hate being another one of those "what are my chances" guys (so distinctive). I figured out that the National Merit deal was just a "commendation" or whatever and my eng teacher who said "semi-finalist" is the retard... I think I will eliminate Williams, Harvard (I am convinced that no one gets in there), and possibly one of Stanford/Columbia, but hopefully not, depending on whether I can get any fees waived, etc. I guess I will eliminate GWU ($50k/yr) and possibly Emory too. I might trade out Amherst for Swat, but then again I might not. Thanks for the compliments btw. Yale does not allow other EA's, so I might apply to Princeton (ED), UNC-CH (EA), and Uchic(EA) as my early schools. I want to figure the technicalities out so I can apply early as much as possible (they make this overly complicated). I have worked diligently on my Yale and Uchic apps (using these for bases). However, once all is said and done, I think I will end up in Durham, especially if I can get merit aid. I think that I would be happy at any of these, but you cannot go through this w/o stressing yourself out.

what do u mean u can't read? a 760 is killer no matter what SAT section ur talking about. plus, to the extremely selective colleges they won't make a distinction between a 760 and a 790 on a single section

Yea. I won't retake the SATs. Considering how much I studied for SAT critical reading/verbal, you would have to be retarded to not make a 750 or better on it. I must have done something like 1 or 2 thousand critical reading q's. I visited Duke the other day with my father, an alumus, and although everything was closed, I could definitely picture myself there. I kind of liked how it was separate from the ivies in not being so "picturesque/traditional." There is actually graffiti on the walls in some places. I guess this is abnormal for someone to like, but I just really feel Duke's atmosphere. Reading from another post, there are tons of parties there, which can be good or bad. Overall, I like this, and Dartmouth seems similar in that respect. Any opinions on whether U-Chicago is so socially dead? I do not think I will be able to visit. I believe ED at Princeton is not single choice (albeit binding if accepted), and they meet 100% financial need, so I really do not think that it would be any more expensive than the undefined school B.

chicago is completely socially dead. if you want to be in that area though, northwestern is a much better school that chicago both socially and academically.

You really need to go read some posts on what "100% of need" means to colleges. Believe me, it's not 100% of what you and your family think you need. There are numerous threads around the 1st of April on the topic of "How in the he!! did they get that number". If you need aid, don't do ED.
