need some advice for future career plans

So here's my basic thing... I wanna start my own company later. I'm not sure how its all gonna work out, but I wanna do something in the biomedical engineering field. I am a BME major, and prolly an econ/entrepreneurship minor. My mom and stepdad think I should go premed... no matter what happens, even if I do not end up starting a company, I will still be a doctor and make a lot of money. No, they don't want me to do it just for the money, but I still need to have a career. So my mom asked me if I wasn't going pre-med and most likely won't start a company for a long time, what will I do in the meanwhile?

So I told her, i'd get a master's in BME, then maybe work in the industry for a couple years, then get an MBA. So, then she asked, well how much are you going to make after an MBA? like 60/70k? I said maybe at least a 100? (since I have some engineering under my belt as well, hope someone can confirm this salary thing)... and then she said, so how are you better off than us (referring to her and my stepdad)? And that I'll still be grinding for money and that if I was a doctor, I wouldn't have to worry about it, etc, etc. Argh, its just annoying having to make career plans.

Anyone have any advice? I know starting a company isn't something you "plan out".... it just happens I guess. So I still gotta have some kind of backup. I first need to make up my mind about premed or not because I'll have to take all the med school pre-req classes too. But other than that, where all can I possibly go with an econ minor/BME major from undergrad, and then a Master's in BME?

This something may be you should go talk to someone you trust. People here may give you suggestions, but in the end it’s your life and you will make the choice. No one here really knows you, so can’t give you great advice. Find someone you would trust your life to and talk to them about it. They will be the one to give you sincere advice; no one here can do that. I would have also advised you to talk to your parents, but it seems you already did that.

Find people that you feel are successful in doing what you’re trying to achieve and ask them for advice. (It’s called “networking”).
