I work as an engineering manager at a large company and a summer intern or co-op engineer (usually electrical or computer engineering types, as well as computer science) make upwards of $20/hour … more for each semester completed and for previous intern experience. Although we haven’t starting hiring again, when I do hire, we rarely consider hiring a full time engineer without multiple intern or co-op experiences. The top students should be able to get paid internships for the summer, or co-operative assignments if their school supports co-op programs.
