Need some advice on TRANSFER!! URGENT HELP NEEDED!!

I am a new member to this forum and found this to be the one-stop destination for vital information regarding college selection, admission and transfer. I am a student from Nepal currently studying in Campbellsville University, KY. I am seeking a transfer to a fairly cheaper university, I may opt for any good community college (not in a rural place though).
Here is my statistic:

Degree Earned: Diploma in Computer Engineering (73%) Overall GPA: A
Equivalency : high school
Duration of study: 3 years
IELTS: 7.5 (i could have scored upto 8)
SAT: didn't appear
Currently getting good grades in my freshmen year. (A's)

I applied to BYU, but they said SAT was mandatory, so I blew my chances. I am looking for university which can provide me good scholarships without SAT. What do you guys suggest? Its my first semester in Campbellsville. I am studying UG in CIS. They do not have a good IT Department. I feel so uncomfortable here. Only two Nepalese on whole campus. Small town middle of nowhere.
me to do.
Based upon your experience what do you suggest? I do not want to give my SAT. But, if I have to I may reconsider doing it.

I seriously need some motivation and advice. PLEASE HELP!!!

I am expecting a solution here guys

Hey Jim!

i was kinda in the same shoes as yours last year when i scored pretty low on my sat, so i decided to attend a local community college in indiana for very cheap tuition and open admission that doesn’t require any sat tests or gpa from hs. so i were u i would at least finish 1 year in cc with knocking out as much as possible of general education classes like english, history, psychology, math and so on,

Hey 3ajeeb…thanks for the reply…man…i tried my application for BYU…i was hopeful to get in this winter intake…there were two major problems. The SAT was mandatory…and other which I think stands true; cause my cousin is studying there and told me that…they had some major issues with the Nepalese students some year ago in the accounting department…boys earned bad reputation for some crazy stuff…got suspended…and nepalese students are not preferred in the UG course.

About my current schedule I am just through my mid-term. I am taking BIO 100, Freshmen Composition.AMerican Government…Microeconomics…Introduction to Communication…I am hopeful of getting As in almost all subjects…a little doubt in Freshmen Composition…

What do you advise me to do? By the way can you share me ur current status?

Have you thought about taking the SAT…? Seems like that would solve most of your problems…

Even if some kids of a certain nationality got into some trouble I highly doubt that BYU now refuses to admit Nepalese students… those kind of admissions policies are frowned upon here…

hey sean518x.

I am studying in a university in KY. I am planning for a transfer but there is one weird situation. I have already paid the tuition fees for a year (two semesters) and also Room and Board. sum of $15100. I have never signed a contract where it says I got to stay in my current university for one year. It was before I came to US, the university wanted me to send the full year tuition and living expenses fee, so I did. (because as they said; they gave me some partial scholarship and had to pay the whole amount)

I do not like the current university. I feel academic standards are low, small town, middle of nowhere, totally Christian University (I belong to a different religion). Limits in working on-campus (only in cafeteria), they do not allow int’l students to work on-campus in their departments. I am still looking for better options to transfer.

Now the problem is: Even if I get accepted to another college, do you guys think that I will get my money back for the rest of the semester. What are the legal obligations? I am scared that they might say I was informed about the situation and deny the refund.

There is every possibility that I may end up staying here for one more semester. after having minimum of 30 credits, by the time I will transfer, do you think SAT will still be necessary for me to get scholarships on transfers?

This is not the place to ask this question. You need to talk to the Registrar’s Office at your college and ask them what their policy is on refunds.

Merit scholarships for transfers are difficult to get (see the Resources sticky thread for a link to a thread with some schools that offer scholarships). It is also difficult for Intl. students to get merit scholarships. You need to check the websites of colleges to see what they offer, but it is definitely not going to be easy.
