Need some advice on which AP to take next year

So this is my situation:

I currently have credits for two years of spanish. I took Spanish 2 as a freshman and Spanish 3 as a sophomore. Then, when junior year began to roll around, i stupidly decided not to continue onto Spanish AP and spent this whole year without a foreign language class.

Since most colleges recommend 3 years of foreign language at the minimum, my counselor and I decided to sign myself up for AP Spanish Language, replacing the AP Psychology class that I had originally picked.

However I am doubting whether or not I should take this class. I had less than stellar teachers during my sophomore and junior years (one quit halfway thru the year), and I haven't retained much of the stuff I learned.

Should I take AP Spanish Language during senior year and risk lowering my gpa (but fulfilling college recommendations)? Or should I go with the original plan and take Psychology AP. If I end up going with Spanish, would self-studying for the Spanish SAT ii during summer be suffiecient review? Im really torn on this problem...

Can you not take both?

AP Spanish is probably more worth your while in the end, but AP Psychology will probably be much easier. Thus, it depends on what you’re looking for.

I would take the AP Spanish class. I was in a similar position to you come senior year–I came in very shaky with my Spanish skills (we were given a page of ap style practice questions near the start of the year and I ended up getting NONE of them correct (it was multiple choice, too)), and with a history of decent, but much-too-easy Spanish classes.

I ended up studying like crazy for the ap exam, and was able to bring myself up to a reasonable level in time for the test. As corny as this sounds, it was much more rewarding to study and learn Spanish than it was to memorize a long list of terms and names for AP Psych (which I also took).

Plus, as you probably know, you will probably get AP credit for a 4 or 5 on the Spanish test at most every college. Psychology, on the other hand, may not give you credit depending on the college.

Spanish. Pysch is kind of a joke and foreign language is important for your transcript.

thanks for the advice guys, i think i’ll definitely stick with spanish next year

@brahms91: unfortunately, our school does not allow us to take more than a certain number of classes. my history, math, science, and english courses left me with only one elective =P

good choice then, grades don’t matter too much senior year
