well I am studying in England at the moment but am a US citizen so wouldn't be international. Anyway I am applying for Fall 2011 (sending applications around september next year) at five different schools. I have a few questions:

When should I get teacher recommendations? I need to have 11 recommendations.

Would the recommendations be sent by the teacher or me?

When should I have the school send off transcripts and counsellors evaluations?

For one uni I need to use the common application and have been to two schools since i've moved to england and need transcripts from both schools. Would it be best to do it from the common application, both on through the mail, or have my current school do it online and the other one due it through the mail? Which would be easier?

I was wondering when sending off all the documents to the universities would they need to be sent at the same time...I mean if they were sent at different times would the get lost/ not connected to my application? I'm worried that when the school send the transcripts, recommendations off they would get lost or something as they need to be sent from the school. Is there any reason to worry about this?

Does any body know the grade point scale for the Ib as our schools new to the IB diploma and doesn't know (no ones applied to america from the school as well so aren't really familiar with them)...

7.Is it OK to send things well before the deadline (as in months)?

and finally

The universities I'm applying to are Stanford University (The common application university), Idaho State University, University of Idaho, Boise State University, and the University of Tulsa.

Thank you sorry for all these questions I'm just a bit stressed.

It’s good you are working on all of this now. I will try to help you, and I am sure others will chime in as well.

Why do you need so many recommendations? Usually colleges only need two, or maybe three. Eleven is really a ton. Obviously, your school will duplicate the letters, which will then be sent to the colleges you apply to. I am a teacher, and I have written the letters “Dear Colleague,” or “To Whom it May Concern.” You don’t need a separate writer for each college. As far as when you should get them, teachers like to know as far in advance as possible for whom they are writing, so they can devote enough time to them. If you can’t email them now, I would suggest you ask them as soon as school starts, so they can be ready by the time your applications are sent.

In the US, the guidance department sends the letters with your official transcript and whatever else the school sends. I don’t know how it works where you are. Ask your school people. You will not send them; you will also not see them. Teachers will give them to the guidance people. One of the things on your applications is that you agree (or not) to waive your right to see the letters.

The school probably has a calendar for when your application is sent. For Early Decision, here in the US, everything has to be in the colleges’ offices usually by October 31 or November 1. Regular Decision deadlines are usually January 1. There are schools with rolling admission deadlines, and there are ED II dates as well. The dates vary, and you can check on the colleges’ web sites for the deadlines. Don’t miss those deadlines. They are more important for you as the applicant than for the school, because the colleges know that schools are very busy and have a lot of apps to get out.

Can’t help you with this one.

You should send out your part of the application asap. Your school will send out its part when it is ready, usually with all of the other students’ apps. As soon as a college gets the first bit of an application, they open a file for you and fill it as stuff comes in.

Your school will include a profile that will explain their grading system, regarding the IB and other grades. Don’t worry about that part. You don’t have to interpret that, I don’t think.

Yes, send things in before the deadlines.

11 recommendations for all schools combined. Most want two or three 2 are just tic box ones off the common application

I’ll be applying for early decision. So if I send things to the universities in July that’ll be fine then? I’ll be moving to the states in September which is why they would be sent early.
