I'll be graduating with a degree in Literature in 2011. In a jist- I want to do my post graduation abroad (Global Media Communications), pay off the loan on time (since it'll be against the security of my own house and I possibly can't pay that huge a sum back on time by working in India!) by working in the same country, and then come back to India or stay back depending on the circumstances.

I can't afford the US, and UK doesn't seem to have jobs for its own citizens and so the creative/media mkt. should be the last thing on their mind. However I have a strong chance of getting through the University of Melbourne, which ranks well on all fronts.

But here's the catch-

1) Their mid-year intake is in July and that's when my grad result comes out, so I will only be able to go there Feb 2012- approx 8 months after I graduate. Then too, I'll be applying in November 2011 and if by ANY chance I don't get through then I would've wasted a year. (well, not exactly, cuz I'll have given a year to getting work ex., but I could as well just make it to one of the good Indian post grad institutes in 2011 itlself.)

2) As good as the employment ranking of UniMelb as shown on the net is, India being a Tier 4 country, I've heard it's hard for Indians to get a job even after Post Grad- mainly due to the lack of work ex and because a work permit for a Tier 4 country is an expense for the company that employs you.

As great as the course is, I don't want to go there if I don't get a job there by the end of the course. Though I have some hope from UniMelb since it's one of the top 3 universities in Australia. But again, my course isn't an engineering or management course, it's the global media communications course. I could get a good post grad college in India but I want a better dailly life than I do now.
Can anyone tell me, if they have any experience, about the job scene for Indians there? And the credibility of the university? And if it's a wise choice for me to wait till feb 2012 for UniMelb. Thanks!
