Hi everyone!
I am Colombian and 5 months ago I moved to US to finish my senior high school year. Now am trying to apply to some colleges but I want to now if I really have an opportunity to get accepted in any of them.
I took my freshman and first semester of sophomore year in a private school back in Colombia and my grades were really bad ( C average).
Then I moved to Virginia and finish my sophomore year (second semester) in a public school, my grades improved a lot. Sophomore year final grades:
Algebra 2: A-
Business management: A-
Chemistry: B
English 10: B+
PE: A-
Spanish: A
World History: B+
I moved back to Colombia for my Junior year and stayed for the 3 first quarters but my grades were really bad so for the last quarter I moved back to Virginia (High school in Colombia is much harder) . My junior final grades:
Economics: A+
Technology elective (programming): B
Precalculus: B
PE: A+
English 11: B+
Etymology: A
French 4 H: B-
Physics: C+
This year am taking :
US and VA government
AP Calculus AB
US and VA History
PE
Environmental science
Personal Finance
English 12
(Planning to get straight A’s)
My current GPA is: 3.25
Las year I took the old SAT without studying and got:
Reading: 520
Writing: 510
Math: 650
Am planing to take the new SAT on Oct. 1
Hopefully am going to do better this time because am taking a prep course and I think my English skills have improved since the last time I took the test…
I’ve never been part of any school club. The only activities I’ve done apart from school matters are:
Two years of community service since 2014
4 years of music lessons and Piano
Part of a soccer team in 2015
The Universities I am trying to apply to (I want to major in civil engendering) are:
Virginia Tech
University of Maryland
University Of Florida
University of Central Florida
Florida State University
Considering this, do you think I have any chance of getting accepted into any of this schools?
Thank you for taking the time to read, any advice would be helpful.
PS: Sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes, am still learning
