Need Some Advice

Hi everyone,

Hopefully some of you can give me some advice.

I am currently a sophomore. My freshmen year I finished with a 3.42 GPA and made Deans list. Had a pretty successful first year and I really transitioned from H.S. to college quite well.

Unfortunately, however, this semester has not gone well. I've had some events happen recently that have distracted me from my studies and I have been having a really hard time getting over them. I can't focus, not motivated etc...

Anyway my grades are absolutely terrible. And with a month left before finals I really do not think I can get them up. If I don't it will destroy my GPA. Next week is the last week to withdraw from classes and I have been seriously considering just withdrawing all my classes and trying to start fresh next semester.

Right now this seems like the best choice and I would just like some input from other people.

Thanks for any advice

Make sure you look into what effect, if any, this will have on your financial aid, living in the dorm, health insurance, registration for the spring, parental support, etc.

Also consider how you are going to explain this to anyone you send your transcript to in the future and any faculty in your department who is teaching one of the classes you’re in right now. Depending on what “some events” means, people may understand completely, or they may not.

I’m not saying it’s a bad idea. I have no idea whether it is a bad idea. It might be the best thing you could possibly do. I’m just saying that you will want to be very sure that there aren’t going to be any unpleasant surprises after you’ve taken irrevocable action.

You may want to consider dropping one class or, if you don’t need to maintain full-time status, more than one but not all.
