Hi guys,
My senior year just got started and I have a hard time making a decision. So I just got selected as a captain on tennis team, which I have been on the varsity since freshman. But I also get other 4 Ap classes, and I predict all of the stuff will wear me out... I don't whether should I drop a Ap class or quit the sports team.. If you are the same condition, what would you do? Does an AP course matters much or a 4-years of sports commitment? Please help, thanks!

I honestly think you can handle doing both. Best of luck!

4 AP classes and a varsity sport shouldnt be that big of a deal… The school tennis team only plays for one season yes? As long as you have time management, you should be fine.

It’s not a no-brainer. Check with your guidance counselor who completes the gc recommendation form in the common application. He or she has to indicate if your academic program was ‘the most rigorous’ available or not. Find out if dropping one AP would change their rating of your academic program compared to your peers. At some schools 4 APs is a lot - at others its just normal. Colleges only compare you to your peers at your school based on what the gc says is the norm.

Know that if you are applying to highly selective schools, they expect you to be able to handle a ‘highly rigorous’ schedule (whatever that is at your school) and the captain role. If you aren’t applying to selective schools and don’t need scholarship money, or stress out under too much pressure or have other commitments that are important to you, then it might make sense to dial back the academic pressure. If being captain of the team is fraught with political intrigue and social mine fields, it might not be worth it either. Only you know yourself and your personal situation well enough to make this decision.
