Need some help/advice

So to make it short, I didn't do nearly as well as I would have liked this semester. I pretty much screwed up. I'm a freshman, and I got a B+ in writing, a B in my history GE course, and a B- in chemistry. I'm still awaiting my final grade in biology, but I either got a B+ or an A-. My GPA would be a 3.08 with a B+ and a 3.18 with an A-.

I'm really bummed about this, because I pretty much got straight B's and I didn't even get a 3.2 GPA. I'm a biology major and I'm tentatively thinking about medical school after college, but I already got off to a bad start and GPA is incredibly important for medical school.

So, could someone please tell me where a 3.18 GPA would put me? Am I in significant trouble or should I just forget about it and move on? I've already started doing some chemistry in advance for next semester (since I almost got a C, and I'm taking an even harder course next semester) and I'm hopeful that my GPA will be better. Could anyone please give me some input and/or advice?

3.18 GPA after 8 semesters? Far from ideal, slightest of chances for acceptance.
3.18 GPA after 1 semester? Nobody cares. You have 7 more semesters to raise it or destroy it.

^ Agree.

STOP freaking yourself out. Just stop it. You have plenty of time to make or break your GPA. If you continually out-perform yourself, that 3.18 (which in the real scale of things isn’t that bad) will be a thing of the past.

But you have to realize that you will have to change your behavior. Repeating what you did to get a 3.18 next semester isn’t going to raise your GPA one bit. You have to change something, whether this means more study time, getting a tutor, going to office hours, less partying, etc.

Thank you, and I realize that, but it’s hard not to freak out when you have a bad semester and you’re a freshman. I’m going to get over it but at least I would think freaking out is better than not caring at all.

While you shouldn’t be pessimistic about first semester, you should start thinking of ways to do better.
I have friend who has around 3.3 every semester, and at the end of each one, he swore to get a 4.0 next semester.
