I've had a job for two years now, working in a local pizzeria. The thing is, they pay me under the table. So the problem is, I've already written on my application that I have a job and it's also in my letter of recommendation from my teacher, but I can't claim this on the CSS profile as "taxable income". So what do I do?

I don’t get paid a lot, that’s another thing. I get paid less than minimum wage + usually crappy tips, two days a week. It’s not much of an income, I just don’t know exactly what to say about it.

There are kids who do yard work or babysit or walk dogs for money. They don’t generally make enough to have to file taxes, but they also don’t have to pretend they’ve never worked. I mean, what your employer is doing isn’t right, but it shouldn’t present a problem for you in terms of applying for financial aid.

You could just estimate your income as it will stand at the end of the year. Then after Jan. 1st you can file your tax return, state that you don’t have a w-2 form to submit. Unless you make a lot, your likely won’t owe any taxes anyway, but having filed you can then use that information to update your FAFSA and CSS Profile.
