Need some help eliminating NYC colleges from my list.

Nova is way further away than OP wants but it is a very good school.

well considering most of the students spend the majority of their time on their studies I would have to say that Princeton
is a great, college town that happens to be just 45 min to philly and about 1 hour to nyc . it also has many opportunities close by for internships in various industries like big pharma, and finance. But It’s no Willimington.

I’m going for Finance - but Stevens IT seems like a good school either way. I’m getting out of california for undergraduate - going back for graduate/career most likely. Therefore, I’m not really looking at CSUs or UCs. I’m definitely doing Rutgers NB, Drexel. I’m thinking I’m still going to apply for NYU as a high reach.

Has Drew University in Madison NJ been mentioned? It’s about an hour and a half from Parsons according to Google maps.

Why don’t you at least have one Cali school on your list anyway, just in case none of your OOS options work out?

The max distance I’m looking for is an hour away so we can split the commute and drive a half hour each. I think I’ve got plenty of schools on my list. Rutgers NB, Fordham, Drexel, Temple, UD. URI, Boston U, NEU, Bentley U, NYU, Bryant, Clark, UW, SeattleU, and I might add Villanova pending a response from a transfer admissions rep. Plus people on forums say different things and I also have my college counselors opinion to weigh against it and then simple college statistics.

Drew, Hofstra, & Pace are overpriced.

I second most of the school’s mentioned. Temple, especially.

Hoboken & JC are very convienent to NYC.
Both cities have gotten quite expensive. Be careful with JC, since the “cheaper” areas can be quite dangerous.

That was my girlfriends first opinion about JC but there hoboken and west NY and the decent parts of JC. We live in Oakland,Ca which is considered significantly more dangerous than JC but we live in a wonderful neighborhood so we are used to it haha.

I got the impression Pace and Hofstra are overpriced. The thing keeping me interested in PACE was people’s reviews saying because pace is right next to wall street they got hooked up with fantastic convenient internships and consequently jobs.

I also get the impression Drexel is a little overpriced but I’d like to be in Philly, it really seems to be a place that a lot of people my age are moving to right now, and it’s pretty cheap if you know where to look. I might eliminate Drexel if I include Villanova, but like I said, it depends right now. I’d love to get into Wharton but that’s definitely not happening hahaha.

I don’t understand something. If your girlfriend is going to Parsons, and you want to be under an hour apart, why are you looking at schools in Philadelphia and New England?

I’ve said it earlier in the thread. She’s applying to parsons, upenn, massart, risd, UW, harvard

Princeton isn’t bad. It’s not sleepy like Ewing or Hamden,CT. It’s got a good flow, with a good amount of shops, businesses, & stuff. I think it’s wealthier than your average suburb too. It’s probably Mercer county’s best town.

P.S. I visit Princeton frequently to shop/eat.A couple of people in my school live/visit Princeton. I also visit the Brunswicks(East,New,North,South),Edison, & Woodbridge frequently.

Pace really is a joke of a school. I have a friend/classmate from HS who’s transferring there this fall from UNC Greensboro - I can only pray he doesn’t regret it. The academics are laughably bad, they take anyone with a pulse, and the students are quite non-intellectual and are only in attendance out of sheer desperation to be in NYC. They operate as a predatory for-profit institution despite claiming to be non-profit. The only reason that anyone even thinks or assumes that it’s good is because of its location, that’s it. That school is worth not even a quarter of what they charge.

I second Hoboken. It’s pricey but it’s worth the price. The crime rate is low too(lower than the national average) & their citizens have high education rates & high income. It’s probably one of, if not, NJ’s best cities.

Jersey City is improving. It’s crime rate has gone down significantly over the past years. It’s pricey for good housing & “cheap” for sketchy housing in more dangerous areas

Thanks for all the input guys.
I eliminated NYIT, Pace, and Hofstra. I’m keeping my backup schools in Providence & Seattle. In NYC area I’m keeping NYU for reach, Fordham, and Rutgers NB because my gf and I could live west of nyc
