I am thinking about majoring in engineering in college but I'm unsure.

So with these stats, can anyone suggest any schools I should look at. Thanks in advance.

SUNY-Bing, Penn State, WPI, RIT, U Roch., Clarkson, Rutgers, and Drexel for nearby options.

Any particular school atmosphere preferences?

I don’t want to go to a small school. I want to got out of state too.

bumppppppp

Clemson, Virginia Tech, Auburn, North Carolina State, Purdue, Michigan State, Kansas State, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Iowa, Iowa State, Pittsburgh.

I decided to fetch an old post of mine about E-schools that is all-encompassing.

Hope it helps:

Columbia (similar-Brown, Penn, Dartmouth, Caltech, Wash U, Stanford, MIT)

Tulane (similar-Vanderbilt, U Miami, Emory, Rice, Tufts)

Bucknell (similar- Lehigh, Lafayette, Union, Swarthmore, College of William and Mary, Villanova)

U Michigan (similar- Berkeley, UCLA, Northwestern, Cornell, Duke, USC, Wake Forest, UVA, U Wisconsin, U Toronto, McGill)

Carnegie Mellon (similar- Case Western, U Rochester, Johns Hopkins, RIT, Pitt, RPI, WPI, GA Tech)

Purdue (similar- U IL- Urbana-Champaign, U Minnesota-TC, Ohio State, Penn State, U Washington, U Texas, Texas A&M, FSU, UF, UGA)

Rose-Hulman (similar- Kettering, Stevens, NYU-POLY, Embry-Riddle, IL Inst. of Tech, Michigan Tech, Cal Poly SLO, Clarkson, CO School of Mines, New Mexico Tech)

Clemson (similar- U South Carolina, North Carolina State, UT-Knoxville, Mizzou, Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, U Arizona, ASU, Oklahoma State, Kansas, U Iowa, Iowa State)

I tried to sort by similar personality and prestige/student quality, but there are probably some gaps. Anyways, just looking at:

Columbia
Tulane
Bucknell
U Michigan
Carnegie Mellon
Purdue
Rose-Hulman
Clemson

… should give you an idea about the basic types of engineering schools out there and their differences.

Thanks Schmaltz and OHKid.

One last question, is Cal Poly a good school. I saw that it was ranked number two in engineering but the average SAT scores were much lower than any of the other highly regarded engineering schools? Thanks.

Clemson :)

My D has stats similar to yours. McGill was recommended and given your French, you might enjoy it. I have no idea about their engineering, however.

Is money no object?

Do you know how much your family can spend each year on your education?

:)

Forgot to add this. I am applying for an NROTC scholarship so that might help with the costs. Other than that though, I’ll be taking out loans. My families income is >150K but I don’t think my parents can pay much because I have a sibling going to college as well.

In regards to the Mcgill comment, I don’t think I want to leave the US for college.

Pierre, do you enjoy Clemson? I am probably going to apply there. I have a week until my school wants decisions made so they can send out our transcripts.

Matt, I love Clemson and I’m really happy that I came here, the people are really friendly here, the weather is amazing (still wearing t-shirts/shorts!) compared to Boston, the professors and classes that I have this semester are amazing. If you have any questions, feel free to message me or send me a email (ptong@clemson.edu)!

Does anyone know which engineering program is better, Clemson or Syracuse?

in the latest US News undergraduate engineering rankings, Syracuse’s engineering program was ranked 76th and Clemson’s was ranked 57th.

Thanks a lot Pierre.

So my list of schools I’m applying to is:

Penn State
SUNY Binghamton
Clemson
Villanova
Purdue
Lehigh
Illinois
Maryland
Virginia Tech
Michigan

Fordham(free application so just seeing what happens)
Elon-early action, pretty sure I can get in

Is this a good list? Too many reaches? Thanks

Are you going for engineering? why would you apply to Fordham and Elon then?

Fordham is a free application and I’m basically being forced to apply there by my parents.

I liked Elon when I visited and I’m pretty sure I could get in. I am not positive I want to do engineering and if I do change my mind, I want a smaller school to fall back on if I get in.

Another suggestion, in place of SUNY Binghamton, I would look at SUNY Buffalo if engineering is in the plans at all or SUNY Geneseo if you would like a smaller school.

^ How big is the international student body at Clemson?

The undergraduate international student body makes up 0.92% of all undergraduates.

However, among graduate students, 28.22% of graduate students are international students, 50% of the engineering & science college graduate students are international students so you do see international students on campus.
