Need some help

Hi,

I may be getting slightly ahead of my self because I am only a Junior in high school this year. Anyway, I went to a local Brown informational meeting and was taken by the open curriculum and pass fail opportunities as well as the schools amazing reputation. I did more research and found that Brown also had what appeared to be a great history department, especially ancient history, which is great because as of now I hope to be a history major and later teacher. As I look into it more and more it looks like such a great school for me. The problem is I really don’t know how realistic it is for me to apply.

I am an IB student (hoping for the diploma) and have a GPA around 3.9 right now. I have no idea what my ranking is or where to find that, but I think it is pretty good. I am involved in sports almost year round, cross-country and track (arguably not sports). I am a senior editor for the school newspaper and hope to be editor-in-chief by next year. I am in several school clubs like National Honor Society and Habitat for Humanity, as well as one of the five members of our schools first anti-death penalty clubs. I also am a white male living in Oregon and I go to public school if that makes any differences. While reading through some other threads I noticed geography ethnicity and gender can make a difference.

As the SAT I gets closer I find myself stressing out more and was wondering if anyone who has gone through the Brown application process had any ideas about what I can do to make my chances better. I am trying not to get too excited about Brown because I think it is a long shot, but I want to at least make sure I do everything I can so I don’t regret it later.

Thanks for any help at all.

in general....just prep for your tests and don't mess up your stats

"I am involved in sports almost year round, cross-country and track (arguably not sports)."

correct, it is more than a sport, it is a lifestyle. As you can see, you have a fellow runner here. haha

well I would make sure you do well on your SAT's but I wouldn't kill youself for a perfect. Brown with an average SAT score of 1390 will not frown upon 1400's. But high SAT scores can never hurt though! Remember to do EC's that you are passionate about. Make yourself look like you can dedicate yourself wholly to something you want to do.

In the meantime, good luck with your IB tests and SAT's! Remember to keep your GPA up.

dont worry. most kids dont do as well on the 1st go around on the SATs then do fine on the 2nd. I think I jumped 80 or so points or so on the 2nd.
