Need some help

Hello, the major I am going for is in communcation. In regards to a college degree, is it better to have a minor with the degree, or use the electives you can to take to take classes that could benefit the degree. Also is there really this stigma of where you go is important, or does that more so apply to something like the arts. For the major, I could either have a business minor/other minors, or I could also just take the electives, which having a minor might push me a little for graduating. Which minors/ electives would benefit a com major?

In terms of what to pair with a Com major, it probably depends on what area where you’d be looking for a job. If in government/politics (like in a congressional office), you might also want to also study government/political science or economics. If for business, then, yes, business classes would be great. I see from your other threads, you have some interest in environmental science. If you might want to work with environmental/nature groups, then probably also economics and environmental science/science classes.

Are you still in high school? If so, it’s great you are thinking about what you might want to study. It certainly can be a factor in your college choice. AND don’t feel pressured to know for sure. High school and college students are growing and developing and learning a lot about themselves. Think about how different high school sophomores are from college sophomores. There’s a lot of change, a lot of growth in there.

It is very, very common for students to change majors once they are at college, some more than once. I think all of mine have or are changing their majors. It’s only natural, students are growing and developing are exposed to many new subjects in college. Freshmen will usually take 8-10 classes, so by the midpoint of their spring semester freshman year, they have heard and and read about many new things. Some might really capture their interest. So keep processing it, know that new things might inspire you. Embrace that, it’s great.

Good luck!
