Need some help...

so guys, im crossing the border from the UF forum to come and seek some help, yea i know, help from noles..lol. too bad ill prolly be a saint. but anyways.

first of all, is it too late to call fsu and beg them to let me in at this time, i got acepted for fall but thought i had my decision made for santa fe > uf. now im starting to think about it but its really late, i know. is there anyway theyll let me in for fall term?

second, i know the engineering is off campus but how bad is it? and the first 2 years i wont even go there, itll be all pre-reqs and such. after i get my AA i can decide to stay or transfer i guess.

any advice greatly appriciated, i really dont wana spend the rest of my life regretting decision because i was so close minded with uf a couple of months ago.

I would make an appointment with Admissions and drive up to plea your case. That will hopefully demonstrate how serious you are about desiring to be a student at FSU. (Might show more than just a phone call)

It can't hurt to try and call admissions tomorrow. Good luck and let us know what happens.

haha, are you scared since Santa Fe isn't a community college anymore that you won't get into UF as an AA transfer?

I think you might be able to get them to let you in for the spring term, so I would go ahead and call them.
I wouldn't say their engineering program is bad by any means. It's fairly new and hasn't really gained any reputation yet. It really depends on what type of engineering you want to do though. They have a great Industrial Engineering program there, and with the MagLab, they have a lot of opportunity to experiment with various compounds for materials.

Have you considered UCF? They have great engineering programs, and they have a rolling admissions cycle (11/1 is the deadline for the Spring term). Maybe you could take some classes at a CC and then transfer in for the spring term.

FSU's engineering is improving and is nationally rated for the first time. I would not be afraid to attend. The most recent rankings for graduate engineering show:

UF 24
UCF 80
FSU 92

are there rankings for undergrad?

its not that im now scared about transferring to UF, its that i recently visited FSU and fell in love with it. i like it so much better than gainesville. also, i get more money back attending FSU compared to SFCC and the cost of living is less. all of these are things that i have taken into account. in addition, i experienced that whole "college lifestyle" without even being a student and i see SFCC as miami-dade, get in get out. and after seeing what a 4 yr university is like, i really enjoy it

UPDATE
i called the admissions office this morning and spoke to the director personally. she said to send my final transcripts and shed have an answer for me then, so ill find out tommorow morning. she didnt seem to negative about being able to attend fall, so i guess thats a good sign. ill pay a late reg. fee or w.e. i just dnt wana regret my decision later.

btw, im thinking of switching to something less math based and more science based, i.e. chemical science, computer science.

i don't blame you for falling in love with fsu...isn't the campus beautiful? even though there are a lot of students, the campus still feels small...i can't wait to get up there..

best of luck to you! :]

Good luck!! Let us know what they decide.

Good Luck! Hope that she has good news for you tomorrow!

thanks everybody. im not getting my hopes up because frankly, at this stage in the game, and with my irresponsibility in the past. i do not deserve to get let in this late, but im praying god has saved a miracle for me.

livelovelaugh, that is exactly why i fell in love. aside from having dorms that dont look like jail cells cough UF cough, the campus is not as cluttered as UF's and even being there only 2 days i felt at home. my friend who i was staying with in reynolds would wake up super late. i wake up early. so the second day i woke up, tooka shower, got dressed, and just went bymyself to landis green. i think thats when it hit me. hopefully tommorow is not as bad as this summer has been.

Good luck! I bet the anticipation is killing you!

:)

Good luck! As an FSU grad I understand the appeal of the university. ;)

Undergrad engineering - US News:

UF 29
FSU NR
UCF NR

All others in FL not rated.

Good Luck. There are kids who decide over summer to take a year off, stay home and do CC, etc etc. There are students who go summer and decide not to return for fall. There are often last minute openings. You never know......

thanks everybody for all the kind words.

as far as engineering goes, im straying away from it. i think my first two years i will take math one class at a time but focus more on sciences.

Will you be living off campus if they accept you? I wonder if they still have any dorms available. If so they will probably be in Kellum. Good luck!

also, i know there are last minute openings but....if this lady tells me yes then what happens with orientation and registration? isnt orientation like a 2 night thing? and theyre all over. hopefully theres a way to bypass this.

i will be hardly sleeping tonight and if i do ill be dreaming about her saying yes.

OH i have another question guys, if i get told yes, i can go for fall and there is no dorms available, which there probably arent, is FSU like UF in which you cant try to get a dorm for spring, u have to start fall? cuz id be living with a couple friends fall and then try to move into a dorm when spring rolls around.

There is a late orientation on August 21st-22ndish (around then).

Registration would have to happen VERY VERY late. You'd have to do it during the add/drop period.

I'm pretty sure that they do housing by semester, I could be absolutely wrong though. And there is probably no room in Kellum, by the way. Because I read about people who didn't even get housing.

Good luck!

^^^thank you. it eases me a bit to know about the late orientation. it kinda signals me to believe that there are always a few stragglers like me. i could be wrong though.

good luck on trying to get in!
i absolutely love FSU and truly wish you the best ; ]

as for dorms, i dont think you'd get one because one of my friends got into FSU off the waitlist and then applied for a dorm and she's around number 200 on the dorm waitlist... but there are tons of other options available around town!
