Also, from what I understand (at least in engineering undergrad rankings), is that undergrad rankings are completely useless at the departmental level because a good chunk of the rating is based on “peer assessment.”

How is some random prof polled at another university going to know anything about the program at a different school? (unless they personally know professors, etc)/.

Okay, then forget published rankings for a minute and let’s go back to my original question.

Which undergraduate programs stand out as being “top-notch”? S is interested in engineering, business and, possibly, sciences. Does one of the engineering programs in particular seem well done? Is a computer engineering degree from Wash U as respected as one from other top engineering schools? Also, which majors in the Olin school are strong?

I am asking which programs are strong, well-respected and highly regarded, both within the Wash U community and outside among companies that hire.

And thanks for any feedback. I really do value these opinions.

The BME (biomedical engineering) department is well-regarded. Also, wash U is known for having a great pre-med program as well as a great business school. It’s also known as being generally strong in the natural sciences (bio, chem, etc.).

^What above said…the program Wash U is best known for is BME.
Computer Engineering is okay, but nothing close to a degree from MIT/etc.
Olin is good overall…the actual major someone chooses for Olin isn’t that important.
