I am looking to major in biology, but I don't want to go to a college where academics become the only sole focus in a student's college career. I want a somewhat relax and kinda party school. A school where students mostly study during the week and party at the weekends. It must have a great science department. So far i got UCLA, Santa Cruz, and Santa Barbara. Thxs

Oh yeah, Might be a little off subject but can anyone recommend me any private schools that kinda fit in my category. Doesnt have to be in CA. Was thinking about Wakeforest.

UcMichigan, without some idea of your stats and a little more info it is hard to make suggestions. Small school? Large school? Finances an issue? Probably 90% of the colleges out there kids study during the week and party on the weekends...

the UCs are a sweet deal if you're in-state, but I can't see why anyone would go out-of-state. For what you'll pay to attend a UC (over 40K/year) you could go to a good private school that has smaller classes, personal attention from profs, housing on/near campus, closer ties to alums, and that focuses on educating undergrads instead of grad students.

Don't get me wrong, the tradeoff in cost is well worth it for CA residents, but I scratch my head wondering why anyone from outside CA would pay full freight (estimated costs of $40K/year according to UC) to go there. And don't think they'll help out with financial aid, either; its tight enough for CA residents and there isn't enough to fund out-of-state students.

You might prefer USC...somebody told me they had a good biology program. As far as UC's go though, if you want a party school then AVOID UCSD. They have a top-notch bioengineering program, but from everything I've heard the social life there is rather weak.

UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, and UCLA all sound like great fits. If you are interested in Marine Bio, UC Santa Cruz is the best place in the USA pretty much. I'd apply to those 4, and USC. Assuming your stats are like all the others on this board, you'd probably get into one of those 5, and most likely USC with scholarship money should finances be an issue.
