So I realized very belatedly that I have one safety school on my list (auto-admission) and maaaaany reaches. I need some matches before I end up being screwed over by all my reach schools and having to go to my safety, which is honestly a great school... if I want to go into business or engineering, which I don't.

Here's my list so far:
Safety: UT Austin
Reaches in order of preference: Duke, Rice, Johns Hopkins/UPenn, Northwestern, UChicago, Vanderbilt/WUSL, may add Brown, Georgetown, and Columbia based on what my parents want; haven't really looked into them yet.

I know that's a really long list already, but I highly doubt I'll end up applying to all of them due to time constraints.

Brief stats/info:
Race: Asian
GPA: 4.0 UW based on 1st quarter, will likely go down for semester grades
-Will have taken I think around 15 APs by senior year's end
SAT: 2360 superscored, 2350 w/o
ACT: 35, one sitting
SATII: Bio M: 790, Math II: 790
EC:
-Piano for 13 years, a few state awards
-Violin/viola in school orchestra for 7, various local awards; officer position in orch
-Science NHS; founding officer
-Bio Oly; co-leader
-Tri-M Music NHS
-Mu Alpha Theta (Math NHS)
-NEHS (English)
-Spanish NHS
-Probably 100 or so hours of volunteering

Preferences:
-University > LAC
-Private > Public because 1) size of student body, 2) with out of state costs I might as well go to a smaller private anyway, and 3) many Dec. 1 due dates coming up for public schools that I don't really have time to start apps for
-Urban or at least suburban location
-More collaboration and less cutthroat competition
-Liberal-leaning, can be more moderate than liberal
-Cost of tuition doesn't really matter
-Nowhere super religious

Unnecessarily long post, I know, but thanks in advance to anybody who replies!

If you want another “known” safety that is also known to be terrific for pre-med, apply to Pitt. They are semi-public and larger, but there are oodles of hospitals on and around campus, plus if you wanted to save $$, they are likely to give you great merit aid.

You’d have your answer quickly as they are rolling admissions and then could wait to see what happened at other schools.

My guy (similar stats) used Pitt as a safety and they ended up being his second choice - right after U Roc (where he is now happily a junior). ;)

If you want more collaborative and less cutthroat then I suggest you go ahead and add Brown, but that’s not helping you with matches. Matches for your stats are harder to find because of the selectivity factor.

@artloversplus When I said “cost of tuition doesn’t matter” I meant to say that it doesn’t really matter if I don’t receive any financial aid or not. I will still be applying for aid at every school I apply to (assuming they are need-blind), but my family is economically secure and willing to pay as much as they need to for my tuition. That said, even though they can afford to pay, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they want to (it’s more of a last resort type of thing), haha.

To everyone else, thank you for your input thus far!

Holy Cross(don’t have to be religious) has great pre-med program and is need-blind-meets 100% DEMONSTRATED FINANCIAL NEED…HC has great medical alumni network(Nobel Prize winner, med school deans etc). HC website is informative and beautiful campus 1 hour from Boston.

It’s a stereotype, and you never want to let them know they’re only a backup, but most of your criteria are met by Tufts. And any of the top Boston schools, for that matter - BU, BC, Northeastern.

Other private big city schools you’d be good for would be Emory, USC, NYU, Case Western, Miami, and SMU.
