Moliamort- would you be able to share info on the program you are with or the professor name from UChicago ? Thank you
@moilamort Ha! Good for you, moilamort, for calling posters out for not answering what you asked and making huge assumptions about what you have and have not done, know and do not know. That took gumption, and I, for one, like you already. You certainly are able to recognize when you are being pulled away from your question and you are unwilling to let that happen. That, by the way, is an admirable trait and sets you apart from the average 17 year old.
OP already said she decided to stick with a bio major.
And while 3 could be good, it hinges on making it relevant to adcoms/college skills. Not just interesting to some of us. In ways, it’s like a contest entry.
I like Number 3. Depending on how you write it, it could be really great. Don’t worry about the prompts. Write the essay and then see which prompt it fits. If it doesn’t fit anything you can always use the free write prompt. This was the best advice my son was given when he was writing his.
I like #3 but I would make it about you. Your house was changing…how did you change, learn as well etc. What did you discover about yourself while your house was also going through change? New skills are great! I think this topic can get very creative. I would not go broad…I would take a small snip and build on it. My daughter wrote about cleaning a closet and she got into top schools. When we toured a top school one of the adcoms told us that one of his favorite essays was about a pair of shoes.
I’m thinking of going into International relations or linguistics (linguistics is still a maybe; I’d love to major in it but few colleges have good programs in it. Many schools have strong poli sci/int rel programs tho). I don’t know how good of an idea it is to talk about something related to your intended major in your personal statement. I’ve heard you don’t wanna overlap info in an application, and don’t supplementals typically ask a little about your major?
I’ve made drafts of #1 and #3 (totally scraped #2) and I like how they both turned out. I’m tweaking them by using some of your guys suggestions
