Hey guys, well, I'm practically a n00b to the ACT and today I took my first practice ACT Test using one of the PR tests.

It seems I have my strengths and weaknesses because I got
36 M, 35 W, 30 R, and 25 S >.<.

Yeah, so basically I suck at Reading and especially Science...

I haven't read through any strategies yet and just basically read it.

The Prose Fiction passage practically killed my score so I was wondering if anyone has any tips or strategies on how to approach the Prose Fiction passage.

Also, my weakness in Science-it seems-is the experiments passages. Should I read the Introduction first? Should I read the passages thoroughly? How should I approach them?

Yeah, Science is pretty new because as you know it's not tested on the SAT.

Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

BTW, I have the following books

1) PR
2) Kaplan
3) Red Book

PR is good for all but reading
kaplan is great for reading (long passages, so it'll help time)
red book is real-act book i assume.. and that's good for all since they are real tests

just keep taking practice test and reading over strategies.. reviewing old stuff can't hurt also

You own on Math & English, and that's what PR is best for. PR's science is harder than the ACT science, atleast for me (math & English for PR were very similar).

For science & reading, the best thing to do is just take a lot of practice tests for each of them. Those 3 books give you a total of 8 practice tests, not counting Kaplan's CD-ROM.

Kaplan has good practice tests for Math & Science. Red Book has the best practice tests because those tests are actual retired tests.

If I were you, I'd just take a lot of science & reading tests (TIME YOURSELF: 35 min for each of those two) with PR & Kaplan, or any other book. I'd save the Red Book for last in order to see how well you've improved.

I would study with PR, take a PR test. Review what I got wrong, study some more, and then take another PR test. For further practice, I used Red Book.

Thanks for the tips!

Oh, any tips on how to attack the Prose Fiction passage?

Not really. I sucked at that one, too, but I improved a lot on it. You've only taken one test...The more you do, the better you will get.

"If you practice, your score will come."

ROFL

For Prose Fiction read it like a novel and understand what is going on. Don't rush through the reading, read it at a quick but decent pace (time yourself). Doing this the questions should answer themselves.
