I'm at this part.

Based on your answers to previous questions, you may skip certain income and asset questions, including:

* Your and your parents' income taxes and exemptions.
* Your and your parents' untaxed income and income exclusions.
* Your and your parents' assets.

Do you want to skip questions about your and your parents' income and assets?

Note: Some schools may require answers to these questions to determine your eligibility for school aid. However, answering these questions will not affect your eligibility for federal student aid, such as a Federal Pell Grant.

Can I skip it?

I’m actually interested in the answer to this as well.

I qualify for the simplified needs test (but do not have an EFC of 0 nor will my son be eligible for a Pell grant.

Do schools still use income to calculate a new EFC even if you qualify for the simplified needs test? Isn’t that contradictory? are they looking for people who have very high assets and low income to question that?

I answered this on another thread … but I think it’s there in case changes you make later require the info (like if you are no longer eligible for auto 0 or simplified needs) … or if the aid officer finds you entered info incorrectly & you are not really eligible for auto0/sn. Then they will have the info already, rather than having to ask you for it. There MAY be schools that use the info for their own purposes - but I would think that those schools would tell you that they want that info.

For example, sometimes parents will say that they were eligible to file 1040A/1040EZ, so they won’t need to enter the assets or student info … but then we’ll find that they actually had business income … which means they were NOT eligible to file 1040A/1040EZ. In that case, we have to get the asset and student info.
