Hmm… I don’t think you need many safeties as your application sounds pretty solid as long as you keep up the hard work and maybe throw in a few community betterments or something. Colleges like to see that you’re involved in your community, so take note of that. Maybe U of I is a nice back up, Berkeley, I don’t really know.

could you chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1514734-very-stressed-please-chance-me.html

Thanks! Anyone else? Would UNC Chapel Hill be a good safety?

C’mon people!!

If you are in-state yes, if you are OOS no (it would be a low match).

What are your grades/class rank? If you have all A’s, then I would say UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, and the University of Michigan would make for good safety schools since you’re already so competitive. If you’re into LACs, then Vassar may be good as well. Not that these aren’t top universities…they just have substantially more space/applicant pools that are slightly less competitive than some of the other schools you’re considering.

I’d never say UC-Berkely and Michigan as “safety” schools…matches yes.

I have a 4.0 UW GPA. We do have class rank, and I am “number 1”, but there are about 15 other numer 1’s. Our class rank system is a little dumb…

It feels like a waste to apply to Berkely b/c I’m OOS (I’m OOS for Chapel Hill too). Berkely is the best public university in the nation, I know, but paying around 55-60K a year is ridiculous. I won’t get need based aid, so unless it’s HYPSM or Amherst, there’s no way I would even consider spending that much. But believe me, I wish I lived in California. Having schools like Berkely and UCLA are inexpensive in-state options is amazing.

Tulane is a low match for you (may even get a full ride if you can get yourself to write two essays or to do a creative project involving a 3x3 square)
