I have to pay extra $1950 for the Fall semester and $1300 for spring semester. I was offered $4500 parent direct plus loans, but now my parents are saying they are unable to afford it.

What is the best way to resolve this situation? Can I ask for more stafford loan to my college? If not, what should I do?

How much do you have in Stafford already? The max for a freshman is $5500 (and $6500 for a sophomore, $7500 for junior/senior). If you have not already got the maximum, you can ask for more.

If your parents apply for a PLUS and are denied, you are eligible for the independent level of Stafford loan (extra $4000 fresh/soph, extra $5000 junior/senior)

I have $1750 subsidized and $1000 unsubsidized loans. My parents did not apply but I was awarded the parent plus loan.

Is that for a semester or a year? The max for a freshman for a year is $5500.

You were not really awarded a PLUS loan. They just listed the amount of PLUS loan your parents could apply for.
