I'm surprised she's interested in Cornell. It seems a bit too intense for her tastes.

I would also suggest Tufts. It's academic and suburban, but not too intense or sports-crazy. Also, if you two want to be able to see each other, perhaps you can find something to your own tastes in the Boston area. There are a huge number of colleges there.

Marian, Cornell is intense if you are an Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or Architecture major. However, for most majors, Cornell is no more intense than most other universities.

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far, Im definately going to talk this over with her.

In regards to the title of the thread: unfortunately its not as easy as it would seem to get responses from this site without a title that makes some one say hmm let me click on that. In fact i've never got this many responses on any of my other threads without bumping them up 5+ times, and even then I doubt I would have recieved as much feedback as this thread has.

JMU in Harrisonburg, Virginia...sounds like she might like it to me, she should look into it.

-It's big but not overwhelmingly so. I think about 15,000 or so
-they certainly love to have fun and party there, but in a very laid-back, welcoming way
-good school spirit but not in the intense its-all-sports kind of way, they just love their school
-has a very friendly, open atmosphere. Really nice people.
-Virginia may be the farthest south she'll go, but if she's willing to go there...
-rural but not overwhelimingly rural
-not as intensely academic as most of the schools most people on this site are trying to get into ;)
