Need tips to revise for Science and Reading sections

Hi, I’ve just got my score for ACT A06 today. I got 34 for English and 36 for Maths, but only 24 for Reading and 27 for Science (Science score was a surprise to me lol, I normally got higher than that)
I have already read and applied methods in some ACT reading books but my score doesn’t seem to improve much. Do you guys have any tips to share, especially when doing the test on the computer in September? :frowning:

Reading was also my lowest in the beginning. Honestly tho it’s just a matter of practice and getting used to it. I was able to improve my reading section from a 21 to a 31 just by doing a practice reading test everyday. Start by timing urself eight minutes per passage. In those eight minutes work on reading the passage quickly and answering qs. Once u get more comfortable with that do full reading tests with the 35 minute time frame. It’s difficult and will require work but with consistent practice it’s definately doable so good luck!

Do you read through all the passage before answering questions or do you have any other ways of doing it? :< I finish each of them in 10 mins or so :<

Ya don’t read the questions before it honestly isn’t good for the time crunch. And you just have to keep practicing-ik many times we want quicker solutions but u just got to keep working on it. Do one passage at a time and keep timing yourself until u can get it. If your at ten minutes and you have until September that’s a great amount of time. The test as you know if 35 minutes do you get 8-9 minutes per passage but it’s better to get to 8 so you have some time afterwards to check over but practice makes perfect so just keep doing them per passage

My tutor said to do one or two Science sections per night, every night and my score jumped from 24 to 33 in a few weeks.

The reading and science sections are the third and fourth sections of the test. Is it possible that you just run out of mental energy? During the break between math and reading, do you eat anything? What sort of breakfast do you eat? Your brain needs fuel just like your body does.

I have read that you should make sure to have a high-protein breakfast before going to the test center. Then plan your snacks to make sure you have something with sugar for quick energy and something with protein for longer-term energy. It’s possible that if you up your sugar intake slightly on the break you’ll have a bit more energy when beginning the reading test. Not too much, mind you, you need to be able to sit still through it.
