Need to Change Majors...

I applied to UC Berkeley as L&S Computer Science. I already filed my SIR and I know I'm going there for sure, but I just realized that I want to change my mind and do "Electric Engineering and Computer Science" under the College of Engineering. Is it possible to make this change before the upcoming fall?

I read the "Applicant FAQ" on myBerkeley about this and it said:

Q: Can I change the major (and/or college/school) I applied for at Berkeley?
A: In general, it is our policy to allow major changes only within the application filing period. After November 30, you must submit a written request by mail or fax to change your major and/or college/school. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate major or college changes, due to a variety of administrative factors.

I am prepared to send a fax for this request, but I am not sure if this will work since I have already been accepted. Is it too late to request a change of major?

Why do you want to do EECS?

You do realize there is virtually no difference beteen L&S CS and EECS when it comes to CS content.

because I want a BS not a BA

that is not a legitimate reason.

The difference between a BA and a BS is not significant.

Other than that, it’s really because I have passion for electric engineering as well. Even though you could take the classes in the upper division, I’d rather switch majors so I wouldn’t have to bother w/ the social sciences and philosophy @ L&S.

Point is…is it actually possible to change majors before the upcoming fall?

Nope, not until your sophomore year.

I believe it is possible, but not before fall. They won’t let you just switch into it. I would suggest e-mailing someone about it if you want to try to switch before fall, but it is no big deal if you don’t

Trying to switch into EECS to avoid breadth courses is one of the stupidest things a Cal student could do.

You still have to do GEs in CoE, it is just about a course or two less in CoE.

So it really comes down to not wanting to do the breadth requirements, wanting the EE recognition on your degree, and getting the BS recognition as well? I guess those are legitimate reasons – at least the first one is.

Hmm, correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t students in CoE get more individual attention? Granted, you could also get individual attention if you searched for it in L&S, but it seems the other colleges make the campus population seem smaller and more friendly.
